Quick and Easy Dorm Breakfasts

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

We’re already two months into the semester, and soon it will be the time of year in Boston when it’s too cold to go outside. Your motivation to leave your dorm will fade, and it will be a struggle to get yourself to the dining halls. Still, a girl’s gotta eat! So, collegiettes, here are some quick and easy breakfasts you can make in the comfort of your own dorm!

After your lovely Dewick dinner, grab a few apples and bananas on your way out—use those meal swipes to their full potential. Some of these recipes require you to brave a trip to CVS, but that’s why we have the Joey or a friend’s car!

Oatmeal with apples and cinnamon:

Oatmeal is a great breakfast on a cold fall morning. Whether it’s from an instant packet or a big tub of quick-oats, you can easily spruce up this cozy breakfast. Run your Keurig without a K-cup in it, or heat up water in the microwave to get boiling water. Slice an apple on top and you’ll have an Instagram-worthy bowl.

Extras: if you can make the trek to Whole Foods or CVS, try adding a dash of cinnamon, brown sugar, flax seeds, and dried cranberries.

Fruit and yogurt smoothies:

If you’re lucky enough to have a Magic Bullet in your room, smoothies are a great breakfast for a busy day. Add a dollop of Greek yogurt, some ice cubes, honey, and experiment with different combinations of fruit. I like banana and peanut butter, frozen mixed berries, and frozen mango and pineapple.

Extras: Add protein powder for extra energy throughout the day.

Yogurt with banana and honey:

Greek yogurt is the Beyoncé of breakfast foods right now, so grab a few containers from Hodgdon next time you’re there. Choose your favorite flavor, slice a banana on top, and you’re in business! If you want some extra crunch, add your favorite granola on top.

Extras: Berries are great in yogurt, too. I love adding blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries when I’m able to get my hands on them.

Peanut butter and honey on a rice cake:

For mornings when you’re in a rush, it’s easy to take bites of this breakfast between putting on your eyeliner and mascara. Spread peanut butter on the rice cake, drizzle the honey, and you’re good to go.

Extras: If you’re feeling ambitious, add a dash of cinnamon to kick-start your metabolism for the day and maybe some sliced banana as well.

Happy dorm eating! May the weather be ever in our favor!
