An Overview of Tufts Sorority Recruitment

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

It’s crazy to think that two months have gone by, and we’re already in November. The dropping temperature and disappearing leaves are indications that unfortunately, winter is quickly approaching. With the changing of seasons, though, comes sorority recruitment at Tufts. Even though official recruitment doesn’t begin until after Winter Break in January, we thought Her Campus could provide curious Collegiettes with an overview of what to expect. Recruitment is organized by Tufts Panhellenic Council, which is made up of women from the different sororities on campus. (To learn more about Panhel and stay up-to-date on recruitment information, LIKE them on Facebook!)

Now, let’s get down to details. First off, let me introduce you to the term Rho Gamma. Rho Gammas are women from each of the four sororities at Tufts and will help guide potential new members (a.k.a PNMs – that’s you if you’re interested in going through the process) through recruitment. They disaffiliate (temporarily drop their associations from their specific chapters) during the recruitment process (starting 11/4 until Bid day) so as to be an unbiased source for PNMs. During recruitment week, if you want to talk with someone about your thoughts and decision process, your Rho Gamma is a great person to turn to.

Pre-Recruitment: Panhellenic Council’s first Pre-Recruitment event is next Wednesday (11/6) in Sophia Gordon. Sisters from all four chapters will be available to answer any questions you have, and tell you more about the process. It’s a great way to start getting to know sisters in an informal. In addition to the Panhel Pre-Recruitment event, each sorority will have their own events on the dates listed below:

Chi Omega – Sunday, 11/17

Kappa Alpha Theta – Friday, 11/22

Alpha Omicron Pi – Wednesday, 12/4

Alpha Phi – Thursday, 12/5

Official Recruitment: Recruitment takes place in January and lasts a little less than one week. Throughout the week you will get to know a ton of sisters and learn more about each sorority. On philanthropy night, you are invited to the sorority house and learn about each chapter’s charity. Preference Night is the last night of formal recruitment, and you’ll hear from sisters about why they chose their respective sorority. Bid day is an amazing day! That morning you will receive your bid to a sorority, and then you go to Rho Gamma reveal, which is where all of the Rho Gammas reveal which sorority they’re in. The entire day is about meeting your new member class, and your new sisters!

We hope this helps! Do you have specific questions about recruitment? Enter them in the form below and stay tuned for a Q&A post!
