Meet Her Career’s Empowering Panelists

We are so excited for Her Career, which will occur Wednesday, November 16th, from 6:30pm-8pm in Cabot ASEAN. Our three amazing panelists, Leslie Goldberg, Pamela Herbst, and Megan Monroe will discuss their journeys as women in the work force. They are in three very different fields so we luckily have the opportunity to hear about numerous obstacles and victories from various industries. Here are their biographies to get you excited for Her Career!

 

Leslie Goldberg

Leslie Goldberg holds a B.S. in psychology from Tufts and an M.S. in mass communications from Boston University, where she ran the College of Communication Writing Center for two years. Goldberg has been teaching and advising students in the communication fields for more than 25 years. At Tufts, she manages the FMS internship program and advises students on careers in film and media.

Goldberg also runs her own communications consulting company, Blue Sun Communications, which she founded in 1991. She specializes in writing and managing a wide range of corporate communications materials, including annual reports, newsletters, Web pages, and corporate capabilities brochures. Clients include Biogen, Children’s Hospital, Emerson Hospital, McLean Hospital, Tufts University, and the Boston Museum of Science.

In addition to writing, consulting, and teaching at Tufts, Goldberg coaches business writing skills to professionals in the workplace. Her strong ties to the media community in Boston give her unique insights into internship and professional opportunities for students.

 

Pamela J. Herbst

Ms. Herbst is a Managing Director at AEW and Head of the Direct Investment Group. As the Head of AEW’s Direct Investment Group, she is responsible for all of the firm’s investment activities on behalf of core and value-added clients. In this capacity, Ms. Herbst oversees the investment activity of approximately $24.2 billion of gross assets (as of June 30, 2016) invested in nearly all property types including new investment transactions totaling approximately $2 billion/year. 

She is also a member of the firm’s Management Committee, Investment Committee and Risk Management Committee. Over her 30+ year career with AEW, Ms. Herbst has served in a variety of roles that have encompassed asset management, portfolio management and acquisitions. 

In addition to holding a number of industry certifications, she is former Chair and Board member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM),  past Treasurer of the Executive Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Office and Industrial Parks (NAIOP), an active member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) where she has served as a Trustee, a member on the Awards for Excellence Committee, a council chair, and ULI’s Investment Committee.

Ms. Herbst also served as Chair and Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Real Estate Committee for The Home for Little Wanderers, the oldest family service organization in the U.S. Ms. Herbst is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts (B.A.) and Boston University (M.B.A.).

 

Megan Monroe

Megan Monroe is currently a research scientist at IBM research in Cambridge, MA. At IBM, she is a visual analytics specialist with expertise in both the design and development of data-driven visualizations. Also, she coordinates outreach and collaboration with both academic and industry partners in the Boston/Cambridge area. On top of that, Monroe is an adjunct professor at Tufts University. Monroe taught a course on data visualization, aimed at junior, senior, and graduate level computer science students. Additionally, she developed a unique curriculum of lectures, labs, and projects to emphasize design aptitude and real-world implementation skills.

Before IBM, Monroe was research and teaching assistant at the University of Maryland. At the University of Maryland, Monroe was a team leader on the EventFlow visualization project. She developed software for searching and analyzing temporal event sequences. Also, she collaborated with researchers at the U.S. Department of Defense, the National Cancer Institute, and many others. Similar to her work at Tufts, Monroe taught lectures, developed curriculum and graded assignments for 100-600 level classes at the University of Maryland.

Prior to her teaching career, Monroe worked as a process engineer and operations manager at McMaster-Carr Supply Company in Cleveland, OH. There, she was responsible for the daily operation and management of the packing department, which consisted of 65 employees and shipped roughly 10,000 orders a day. On top of that, she headed an expansion project to design and construct a new, 250,000 square foot packing department layout.

Monroe is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University (B.S.) and the University of Maryland (M.S. and Ph.D.). Lastly, Monroe’s interests include coffee, pop art, dance, boating, writing, sports analytics, 80’s movies, typography, college football,  and swimming.
