Freshman Reflections: First Impressions of Second Semester Freshman Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

First semester of freshman year has been an absolute whirlwind. From trips into Boston, to mid-day naps on Homecoming, to needing four costumes for Halloweekend, and SO much more, first semester was incredible. The more people I met, the more I realized how intriguing and welcoming Tufts students truly are.

Getting back on to campus after winter break made me realize how homesick for Tufts I was.  I missed my 4-foot tall bed that I have to take a running start to hop up into. I missed the perpetual layer of dust on every surface in my room. I missed the way-too-loud freshmen at 3 am. I missed drowning in the Sunday sundaes, doing shenanigans on the Prez Lawn, the endless stream of friends knocking on my door, and everything else that defines my college life.

So far second semester has been even better. I’m not quite sure how this is even possible, since my first semester was pretty bomb. While us freshmen are still trying to decide how our misshapen edges fit snugly in to the Tufts jigsaw puzzle, we are definitely developing our college identities.

Unfortunately, the first friend group I had made is threatening to disintegrate. We knew from the beginning that we all have different campus ambitions, but we never anticipated us to grow apart so quickly. A couple of us are consumed by the first few weeks of being a part of Greek life, while others are spending more and more weekends with TMC at the Loj. Needless to say, all of my closest friends from first semester will always have a special place in my college memories. But, I have a feeling the process of friendship making is pretty endless freshman year, so there will be no shortage of wonderful people in my life.

All in all, I am just excited (if not more) about college as I was the first day of school. Time is passing at an alarming rate, and I can’t help but feel like graduation is going to sneak up at any moment. Essentially, the cliché saying “time flies when your having fun,” has never been so relevant to my life.
