Fashion Night Out was an International holiday this year, so to speak. Fashion Night Out has started in 2009 and this was Boston’s second year participating. The event brings together those in the fashion world and shoppers for something a little bit more than an all night shopping event. There are runway shows, DJs and open bars in stores; designer appearances; and live entertainment (such as the African drummers spotted in the middle of Newbury Street!).

Copley Square and Newbury Street were packed with shoppers and those wanting to just take part in the festivities. There were definitely some great people watching to be had! Most stores participated in some way, even if it was to offer a slight discount, but many had yummy snacks, wine, and live DJs, turning the night into a party you did not want to miss. There were a couple of criticisms that sales and the free swag were not up to par, but as one store owner commented, “it will get bigger and bigger every year.”

Some insider tips: don’t go early; go late. There are more people there by then, all the stores have set-up, and most of the parties will have started. 2) Plan out of ahead of time so you do not miss out on something you would have wanted to see or do! There is definitely too much going on to make it to everything and the Fashion Night Out website allows you to curate your own customized schedule to use for the evening. So be sure to come out next year collegiettes! It’s a great event and we do not want Boston to be number one on GQ’s worst dressed list again.
