Cuffing Season (Urban Dictionary definition): During the fall and winter months people find themselves getting”cuffed” or tied down in relationships. The cold weather and prolonged indoor activity causes singles to become lonely and desperate.

From Halloween on, people prep for cuffing season. You might hear your friends talk about their searches for people to spend the winter months with.  The holiday season will be filled with hot cocoa, twinkling lights, warm cookies, and cozy blankets – why not add a fling into that mix?  We asked Collegiettes and their friends what they think about cuffing season.

“Everyone wants a significant other during the holidays.  I like the warmth of being rolled up under the covers, but it’s so much better to have someone rolled up with me.” – Tyler

“They stay together through Valentine’s day, then break-up right before spring.  That happens all the time.” – Sarah

“Cuffing season has a bigger presence on smaller campuses because people already know each other.” – *Matthew

“I get more late night ‘Wanna hang out?’ texts this time of year.  Some people get kind of annoying about it.  It’s like, all of a sudden, people you see and talk to want to start things. I’ve gotten used to it.” – Katie

“It’s nothing but guys wanting winter bunnies and girls jumping on the opportunity.” – *James

“There’s artificial romance in the air.” – Anne

“I’m from Florida – this B.S. does not exist.  Cuffing season is nothing but some northeast, winter, depression-driven trash where people want someone to cuddle with because it’s colder than their fridges outside and the sun’s down at 4 pm.” – Alex

“Most of my friends are looking for steady flings, not really girlfriends or anything.” – *Will

“Social media plays a big part in the cuffing season.  People will post on Twitter, ‘I wish I had someone to cuddle with’ and things like that.” – *Lauren

Whether you’re searching for “the one” or looking for a hookup buddy, get out there and make some moves!  Now’s the perfect time to talk to that cute guy in the campus center, or the girl who sits next to you in calculus.  Who knows, maybe you two are destined for true love…or maybe you’re just destined to be “cuffed”.
