5 Easy Steps to Pull Off a Plum Lip

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

This daring autumn trend has been skirting the runways and street style blogs for a few seasons. The dark vibe can be daunting for many. But, using the following tips and tricks will help you brave the colder weather in style and discover your inner vamp.

Step 1- Contour: After applying foundation and concealer to cover up imperfections, use a slightly shimmery bronzer (Lancome Star Bronzer is my favorite) to contour your cheekbones, temples and jawline to give you a warm glow. This will prevent you from looking ashy or washed out, which can tend to happen with such a bold lip color.  I also love using the MAC Bronzing Powder in Golden or Refined Golden.

Step 2- Eyebrows: Define your brows using the Laura Mercier Brow Powder Duo! They’ll provide structure and shape to your face. Use a brow powder for the most natural look. Remember to apply the darker shade with an angled brush to the ends of your brows and the lighter shade near the front. This gradient will look the most natural.

Step 3- Mascara: Pile on the mascara after curling your lashes. Eyeshadow and heavy eyeliner will be too much competition for your dark lips but subtle definition can be achieved with mascara. I love the Lancome Definicils Pro Mascara.

Step 4- Lips: Use the Stila Pomegranate Crush Cheek and Lip Stain to give your lips a dark, natural stain. It’ll last all day and is a more natural option to a full finish lipstick. Remember to top this stain off with clear lip balm or lip gloss to prevent your lips from drying.

Step 5 – ROCK IT: Sporting a look like this takes confidence. Go out and strut your stuff!
