The 5 Best Parts of Tufts Homecoming 2018

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

On Saturday September 29th, the Tufts community of students, alumni and families came together for a time of food, sports and Jumbo spirit for Homecoming 2018. As a student, I enjoyed experiencing the campus come alive on a sunny Saturday morning. Here were the top five highlights of the day:

1. Tailgate Food

The alumni tailgate under the J field tent provided students and alumni with free barbecue and more. Who doesn’t love free food?

2. Meeting alumni

Some students tend to forget that the whole point of homecoming is for the alumni to come back and experience present day Tufts. I got the chance to talk to some alumni from the ‘60s who were in my gender-all inclusive fraternity, ATO. They told me all about what ATO was like when they were at Tufts (it was all men then) and talked about how when they were at Tufts, they had curfews and cigarette machines in the dorms! It was super valuable to hear about how Tufts has and hasn’t changed in the past few decades.

3. Sports

Whether it be the football, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, or field hockey games, it’s always fun to cheer on our fellow Jumbos at sporting events. I even caught a glimpse of President Monaco peeping behind the football bleachers.

4. School Spirit

Homecoming is a great day to show your Tufts school spirit. It’s awesome to see so many members of the Tufts community decked out in brown and blue supporting their school.

5. Community!!

All in all, homecoming is a day for the Tufts community to come together and enjoy a beautiful fall day on campus. Whether or not you went to any of the sporting or organized homecoming events, it’s always nice to have a care-free day with friends.
