Stir Crazy No More

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Trinity chapter.

Feeling trapped and bored? No worries, HC Trin is here to help! The team has put together some ideas to keep your winter fun and interesting.

Don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but as the snow starts to pile up, everyone hunkers down. Instead of staying in your dorm wishing it was warmer, head outside! Channel your inner Queen Elsa and ask your friends to build a snow fort with you, go sledding (with Mather trays!), build a snowman. The snow is amazing, and it’s not everyday all of your classes get cancelled! Layer on your favorite winter clothes and brave the great outdoors.

During the wintertime here in New England, you can either embrace the snow or you can hate it. For those who love the cold weather and are looking to get off campus, a fun winter activity would be to try afternoon or night skiing and/or snowboarding. Mount Southington located in Plantsville, CT, approximately half an hour from Trinity is one place to go, as well as Ski Sundown located in New Hartford, CT, approximately forty-five minutes from Trinity. If you are not into snow activities, another way to get off campus would be to take the Student Government Association (SGA) sponsored off campus shuttle on Saturday afternoons starting at 1:00 PM in front of Mather Hall, to either the West Farms Mall or Blue Back Square in West Hartford, where you can shop around and get a bite to eat. Either way, although the snow can sometimes be a downer on plans during the winter season, there are ways to get off campus and enjoy this time of the year, without being stuck on campus! Especially at this time of year when it’s cold and we mostly want to stay inside, my roommates and I venture out to a different Happy Hour every week. Feng, Treva and Coyote Flacco have topped the list lately! The deals are great on both food and drinks, with many full sized dishes at half price. Check out the Hartford Magazine article for their best recommendations! Samantha Rhodes

You can only shop on the internet so many times a day (and not order anything). I don’t love shopping on the internet anyway so when I want to get off campus for a few hours I usually drive to the West Farms Mall. I’m not always looking for something but if I find shoes or a great top it makes the trip SO worth it. Indulging in some SweetFrog froyo or dinner at Besito on the way back to campus is definitely a possibility. Steph Taylor

Going a little stir crazy? Sick of trekking to Ferris in the snow just to wait in line for a treadmill? This Groupon for kickboxing classes in Farmington (about 5 miles from campus) is the perfectsolution for your cabin fever (not to mention it’s an amazing pre-spring break workout!). For $40, you get six kickboxing classes and a pair of boxing gloves. Grab your friends and make it a weekly trip! Allie Marchese

Looking for a bite to eat thats a bit more satisfying then Mather grilled chicken? Downtown Hartford has some great restaurants and they are all right around the corner. Agave is the perfect place to ease your Mexican craving or check out Trumble Kitchen for a classic American meal! Eliza Maciag
