Mildly Obsessed with La La Land

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Trinity chapter.

For those of you who go to movies just to “see what the hype is all about,” this one’s for you.  The movie that is getting a ton of buzz this Oscar season is La La Land, and honestly, I’m in love with everything about this film.  From the music, to the cinematography, to the acting (and wit that, the actors), to the old-timey feel, La La Land really nailed it.

I saw the movie over winter break and it’s only a matter of time before I go back to the theater to watch it again.  When people ask me if I liked it and is it worth going to – which I did and it is – I reply with, “It’s a complete breath of fresh air.”  It seems like Hollywood is hitting a rut; in the past few years, a lot of movies have been sequels or action-pack summer-blockbusters, and don’t get me wrong, those are great but oh my God how many of those can we take?

La La Land is a musical set in present-day L.A. but with a nod to the jazz era.  Ryan Gosling (Sebastian) and Emma Stone (Mia) play two starving artists who fall in love.  Gosling learned to play the piano for his character, which makes him 300000% more attractive, and he and Stone lend their musical talents to the film, something no one really knew they had.

Mia and Sebastian’s chemistry is amazing.  The songs are amazing.  The costumes are amazing… I mean just look at Emma Stone’s wardrobe.  Where can I get these clothes so I can look exactly like her? Lmk.

Also, La La Land is kinda the movie of the year.  So far the film has nabbed a ton of nominations and awards, such as SAGs, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes, and soon to be, Academy Awards.

See the movie, you won’t regret it.
