It’s finally December, and as everyone knows, that means the holiday season has officially begun! From excessive shopping, to winter break, to the first snow (well, maybe not this year – Hello October blizzard 2011?) to time with family, the holiday season is sure to bring something you love. For me, one of the most exciting parts about the holiday season is the music that comes with it. Who can’t feel the warm spirit of the season when “Jingle Bells” comes on the radio? (Even if it is for the fiftieth time…)

Because of its commercial overload and dominance in the United States, it can’t really be denied that Christmas tunes are the most popular for this time of year, no matter what holiday you are celebrating this December. Therefore, you’ll have to forgive my continuance of the trend of commercialization and disproportionately representing Christmas in this holiday music selection – but these were just too good to pass up!

For a new twist on a (relatively) old favorite: “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey and Justin Bieber
A great song for those of you who still obsess over The OC’s soundtrack: “Last Christmas” by Jimmy Eat World
For a comparison between an old and new version of a holiday classic: “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” by John Lennon vs. “Happy Christmas (War is Over)” by Celine Dion
For the spirit of the season: “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” by Michael Buble
For some Christmas movie classics:
A Charlie Brown Christmas “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”
Jack Johnson “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Glee Cast “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”

Hanukkah Songs:

For an unknown Hanukkah gem by everyone’s favorite Jewish rapper: “Miracle” by Matisyahu
For laughs and arguably the most popular Hanukkah song of all time: “Hanukkah Song” by Adam SandlerFor some more laughs and a catchy beat…but mostly laughs (and/or pure shock that this is a real song): “The Latke Song” by Debbie Friedman
For a clever and actually very catchy cover of Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite”: “Candlelight” by the Maccabeats

Well, I tried my best but apparently there just isn’t a market for songs that celebrate Kwanzaa out there. So as a final song shout-out to all those non-Christmas celebrators out there, “Happy Holidays”! by Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire
