Halloween Movies for People That Hate Horror

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Trinity chapter.

I promise this list isn’t all DCOMs.

(If you don’t know what DCOM stands for, we have a problem.)

1. Monster House

This movie is really weird but also really good.  It was produced by Steven Spielberg with voices from Steve Buscemi, John Heder, Nick Cannon, Kevin James, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and so on.  DJ starts getting calls from a haunted house across the street that ate Bones’ “awesome red kite.”  It gets weird.

2. Hocus Pocus

This one is a given and you had to know it was going to be on here.

3. The Adams Family/Adams Family Values

Creepy and kookie!  Sometimes, Wednesday Adams is all of us.  These movies are funny and you can’t help but love Uncle Fester.

4. The first three Halloweentowns (@disney why’d you change Marnies and think we wouldn’t notice?)

Marnie proves to us that Halloween is definitely cool and that many people share her interest in weird stuff.  Although the only reasonable and normal character was her snobby brother, these movies must be watched every year.  Hope you’re getting childhood flashbacks.

6. The Haunted Mansion

Not gonna lie, this one still scared me a little (a little!)  Though this isn’t Eddie Murphy’s career defining role because we all know he peaked with Shrek, this movie is still a good one and will definitely get you in the Halloween spirit.

6. The Craft

A new girl at a prep school makes friends with three outcast girls and they all practice witchcraft together.  Basically mean girls but creepy and a lot less pink.

7. Monsters Inc.

This movie won’t scare you, but it just might warm your heart and make you cry.  Boo finds her way into the world of the monsters in her closet and ends up making two best friends.  In true Disney fashion, now that you’re older, you’ll be able to understand many more jokes than before.

8. Casper

Kat and her father move to a haunted mansion to get rid of the ghosts that live there.  It’s adorable yet sad.  But on the plus side, Kat’s dad is pretty easy on the eyes.

9. Any and every Harry Potter movie

You don’t need an excuse to watch Harry Potter, but all the witches, wizards, and magic makes it appropriate to put on this list.
