MZ Wallace is a New York based handbag and accessory company on the rise. The company was founded in 1999 by Monica Zwirner and Lucy Wallace Eustice, who had both previously worked in the fashion industry. MZ Wallace currently has two brick-and-morter stores, one in SoHo and one on the Upper East Side, and is also sold through major department stores including Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue. With most of the bags raining between $300-$500, they are an investment that will last for years and look stylish without being something that is no longer trendy six months later. New York Magazine named MZ Wallace the “Best Handbag” in 2009. The company has also collaborated with a number of philanthropy organizations, including Artists for Haiti, The Studio Museum in Harlem, and Food52.
MZ Wallace’s most popular bag is the Metro tote, a quilted nylon tote that comes in a variety of colors and sizes, is used by many girls around campus. I just received the Chelsea tote as a gift and could not be more excited with it! It has a beautiful lining, smooth, quality nylon, and a bit of an edge with zipper accents. It’s made of a material known as Bedford, a light, soft, and durable nylon made exclusively for MZ Wallace. The fabric is also treated with a coating making it water and stain resistant (AKA it’s super sturdy and will survive disgusting classroom floors, being tossed crossed your dorm room bed out of frustration, and being filled in every which way with materials to get you through your day).
On a normal day, I carry the following items in my bag:
-Laptop
-Lilly Pulitzer Agenda
-Continental Wallet
-Laptop charger
-Phone charger
-Pencil case
-3-4 books
-2 or 3 notebooks
-Some snacks (let’s be honest, I leave my room at 7:30am and usually don’t go back until 11 or 12 so I get HANGRY)
The fact that this bag can hold all of that comfortably is pretty amazing. The straps are also incredibly sturdy so I never worry about it breaking or being too much weight on my shoulder.
