Dealing with loss isn’t easy.

The pain that encompasses the heart is unlike any other.

It isn’t the same sadness as when you watch a sad movie, or run into a table, or someone speaks hurtful words.

No.

The pain of loss is something different.

It grips your heart,

Feeling like a never-ending pit of sorrow.

The crying isn’t the same either.

Normally one might cry with great wracking sobs,

Sniffling and tears streaming down the face.

But the crying that accompanies death feels like your own life force is being strangled.

Your throat closes up,

Your insides constrict,

No sound comes out of your mouth.

You just remain there in an open-mouth silent plea for help.

At first, only a few tears escape.

It’s like the body doesn’t know how to handle the grief.

Later, it will turn into a continuous stream raining from your eyes.

The pain never really goes away.

It just sits there, hiding, waiting for you to open the door and let it back in,

To remember that the one you loved is gone forever.

Dealing with loss isn’t easy.

The pain will always remain.

But it will get easier to handle,

The door will be easier to keep closed.

Dealing with loss isn’t easy.
