In a society where the obnoxiously skinny super model is glorified, it is understandably difficult for girls like us to feel confident in our own skin. We see it everywhere, movies, television and advertising are filled with attractive women who flaunt size zero frames. And though there has been a slight outcry from society asking the media to depict more realistic images of women, the majority of the images we see have shown little improvement.

I am sure you have heard it before, but most of the models and actresses that society promotes are selling a false beauty. No woman is perfect! Our definition of beauty has been tarnished by airbrushed images.

Even Victoria Secret models aren’t perfect!

It is important to realize that the media images we see daily are selling us false hopes. Statistics show that the majority of fashion models are thinner than 98% of American women. Instead of comparing ourselves to supermodels and celebrities, we should embrace our natural beauty. There is something unique and amazingly beautiful about each of us.

I challenge each of you all to find one new thing that you love about yourself every morning when you wake up.  Remind yourself that you are beautiful at least five times a day. And before you complain about what you don’t like about your body think about what you do like instead. Embrace your flaws because they are what set you apart from the rest. And if no one has told you today just know that the girls at HerCampus Towson think you are BEAUTIFUL!
