Losing Weight During the Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Towson chapter.

Thanksgiving is a known United States holiday where people sit around and gorge all of the classic favorite foods that you cannot eat as an everyday meal. As a result of this, people tend to gain weight around the holidays. However, I did not. And, to ensure you can lose the weight you gained and then some, here are some things you can do for the holidays coming up next.

1.) Do not go back for seconds unless you are truly hungry-It takes your body 15 to 20 minutes to register that you are full. So, slow down and take small bites. Your food is not going to disappear.

2.) Load up on the leafy greens at the table-If you are anything like me, there is usually salad or collard greens on the table. I put mostly salad and greens on my plate and put a little of the other foods. After one plate, I am pretty full. And, if you eat more foods that have color rather than monochromatic foods, you may start to feel fuller.

3.) Take it easy on the alcohol and sparkling cider- Y’all. This was the first year I was able to have one drink, but, chose not to. And same with the sparkling cider. Less is more. I’m sure most of you readers would rather eat your calories than drink them.

4.) Only eat dessert if you are still hungry, but, later.-I love dessert. And, most importantly, I love sweet potato pie and my mother’s homemade pound cake during the holidays. However, I don’t want to be thirty pounds heavier. If you know you are full, do not tack on more calories because  you are bored.

Hopefully, these tips help some of you readers fend off holiday weight!
