LEAVE IT TO EVA: Towson Dorm Decor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Towson chapter.

Congratulations, ladies! You’re officially Tigers, and if you’re moving to an on-campus dorm, you’re going to need to make it your own. Your dorm will be your home for the next year, so why not make it your own?

Generally, dorms at Towson are pretty good-sized. I was in a triple room my freshman year, and I was terrified that it was going to be like living in a sardine can! Luckily, that wasn’t the case. But if you are tripled, you can maximize your space with some clever organization. Target and Wal-Mart sell cubes and storage boxes, usually for less than 10 bucks a pop. There will be a fair amount of closet and under-the-bed space for all your things–food, books, movies, extra supplies and shoes. Use your dresser for clothes, and make more space in your closet with the Hanger Cascader ($15 at asseenontv.com–I can personally attest to how well it works!) Keep textbooks and notebooks in your desk drawers, and you’ll find you have space for all your extras.

The amazing Hanger Cascader

If your friends from high school have been scattered all over the country to their new colleges, keep them to close to your heart–or at least your head–with fun photo frames and tackboards. Target sells a variety of collage frames, though there’s nothing wrong with the time-tested method of taping photos to the wall. Get all your favorite Facebook shots with you and the girls with Walmart’s photo center options. And you can spice up the walls with posters of your favorite bands, athletes or movies, easily found at Hot Topic, Spencers, Michaels or allposters.com. You’ll most likely have a mirror of some sort to check your hair provided in the room, but there’s no harm in adding a full-length one.

Posters are pretty and cheap!

Sleeping might not be the most fun thing you’ll be doing in your new dorm, but you should still do it in style. PB Teen, JC Penney and Bed Bath & Beyond all sell adorable bed sets. And don’t forget the mattress covers and egg crate padding! I promise you that you’ll need them–the mattresses are not the fluffiest. Bring a treasured stuffed bear or doll from home to add personality to your bed space and to remind you of home. *picture of bed

This will not be EXACTLY what you’re dorm will look like, but it gives great inspiration!

The best thing about Towson’s location is how many great stores are nearby. The Towson Place Shopping Center is a short drive away and the CollegeTown shuttle provide free transportation with your college ID on Sundays. The commons houses a Target, Walmart, Michaels, Marshalls and Bed Bath & Beyond. Target also hosts an afterhours event for Towson students only during welcome week. There’s a ton of giveaways and a free shuttle from campus. It is a super fun event and great bonding experience with your roommate!

No need to panic if your dorm shopping isn’t finished by the time move-in day arrives. You’ll be able to find everything you need nearby!

And now without further adieu, pictures from a real life Towson dorm! Here are some pics of our Editor-in-Chief, Ali’s, Sophomore dorm in the Towers!
