Have you ever heard of the Color Run? How about the Holi Festival? If not, you are definitely in for a treat as I explain what Towson University is calling the Holi Run!
The Color Run is a 5km fun run that focuses on healthiness, happiness, individuality, and giving back to the community. It is an untimed run that is filled with different colors thrown at you every kilometer. At the very end of the run, there’s a huge party with even more colors thrown around. The only rules of the Color Run are to start the run wearing all white and to finish plastered in color!
The Holi Festival is a major festival in India! It is to celebrate the full moon day during March every year. This festival is celebrated through bright colors. People take turns pouring colored water all over each other, throwing water balloons filled with this colored water and spraying this water everywhere imaginable!
Towson University has decided to combine these two incredible events into one! The Holi Run will be held on Sunday, April 14th at 10 a.m. until around 2 p.m. The run will start on Newell field and proceed around the outside of campus for a total of about a mile and a half run, ending back on Newell field. Stations will be set up along the route, handing out baby bottles of water and spraying the runners with squirt guns filled with colored water. After finishing the run, Newell field will turn into a giant dance party with tons of colored powder and colored water to be thrown around and cover each participate with a rainbow of colors!
The Holi Run is practically free! If you pre-register for the run it is only $3 and all proceeds go to a charity of your choice. The charities that were decided upon were Breast Cancer Awareness, Children’s Miracle Network, or St. Jude’s! All you have to do is sign up and pick which charity you want to donate your $3 to. You also get a Holi Run t-shirt when you register for free, as well as fruit and other snacks during and after the run! If you register the day of, the charity donation is raised to $5. If you aren’t a Towson student, the charitable donation becomes $10.
