The day has come. Tinashe, an American singer and songwriter, released her 8th studio album,
“Popstar”, and everyone can agree this is her best yet. I’m one of her newer fans, so I haven’t experienced
much of her discography outside of her 2024 single, “Natsy”. However, even as a newer fan, I can
appreciate the work she has put into this particular album and her solo career over the past 12 years.
“Popstar” is nothing short of unique and fun. I’ve been impressed by many albums this past year, yet
Tinashe gave me something I haven’t experienced in a while from modern music: nostalgia. Songs such
as “Popstar”, “I’d Rather Be Alone”, “Brainrot” gave the production of late 2000s and 2010s princess pop
with, of course, a Tinashe twist and modern references. Along with the nostalgia, these songs do establish
a new foundation for pop music.
Tinashe’s influence cannot be denied given recent news. As of last week, Tinashe dethroned Taylor
Swift’s deluxe album release “The Life of a Showgirl: Encore”. As many fans can agree, “beating” Taylor
Swift is no easy feat. Despite having a mere fraction of Swifty’s fame, “Popstar” took the attention of
listeners and eventually ended up at the top of a prominent streaming platform; that’s impressive.
“Popstar” is easily one of my new favorite releases, and I appreciate the current and incoming love
from listeners. If there’s anything I would advise anyone to do, it’s to give this album a listen or two.
Whatever you do, don’t forget to uplist Tinashe.
