#1 HEREDITARY
I wouldn’t identify as a sadist, but a real sucker for an uncanny and disturbing horror film. After watching Hereditary, I think I’ll stick with Bluey or Scary Movie 3 for the next couple of years. This film is for those who enjoy psychological thrillers, stomach quenchers, and overall intense watch that will have you sleeping with the lights on. Highly recommend watching with a trusted adult…
Where to Stream: Hulu/HBO Max
#2 SINNERS
Not that we had to wait until October, but revisiting sinners needs to be at the top of your watchlist. If you haven’t seen it yet–or if you’re ready to experience the cinematic masterpiece that redefined horror—this should be at the top of your watchlist. Thank you once again, Ryan Coogler.
Where to stream: HBO Max, Prime Video, Hulu (Premium)
#3 TRAIN TO BUSAN
Another classic to quench your 2016 nostalgia. The zombie apocalypse trope felt like a tired, dying plot until the release of Train to Busan. For American horror and K-horror fans alike, this movie is set to satisfy your spooky cravings… and the zombies too! A dream for those who enjoy scary but moving plots, and a nightmare for those who take the metro.
Where to Stream: Peacock, Apple TV, Pluto TV
#4 LONGLEGS
The only movie on this list I’d suggest watching with the lights on. I don’t usually watch occult films because of the inevitable stomach-churn, but for those intrigued and down for
anything, add this to your watchlist. Kudos to Nicholas Cage for his terrifying performance of this 90s-inspired criminal investigation. Unhinged horror.
Where to Stream: Hulu, Apple TV, HBO Max
#5 WOULD YOU RATHER
For a less existential experience, Truth or Dare is my guilty-pleasure thriller that turns a common party game into a high-stakes, deadly, and sociologically intriguing version. I’d call it a mini squid game, desperate citizens trapped in the home of a sadistic, wealthy man who promises fortune in return for humiliation. You and your friends will spend the entire runtime debating, wondering, and questioning morale over money.
Where to Stream: Tubi, Netflix
