DIY: How to Revamp your Jeans for Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Towson chapter.

Distressed jeans are always a big trend in the spring so I’m going to show you how to turn your old jeans into a new and improved pair for the spring for FREE!

The Ripped Jean

Materials:

  • Jeans
  • Scissors
  • Pen/Chalk

Step One: Hey, Her Campus Towson! Can We Go Thrift Shopping?

  • If you haven’t cut a pair of jeans before, I’d suggest going to a thift store for inexpensive jeans or finding an old pair of jeans you wouldn’t mind experimenting on before you start cutting nicer pairs of jeans! If you already have experience cutting jeans or are confident in your skills, you can use any jean you’d like.

Step Two: ‘X’ Marks the Spot

  • After finding your jeans, you should mark where you want your rips to be using either chalk or a pen. The rips can be anywhere you’d like for them to be. In this tutorial, the rips are at the knees.

Step Three: Snip, Snip!

  • Time to cut along your mark! It’s okay to not have a perfectly straight line but keep in mind, once you cut there’s no going back!

Step Four: The Fray (Optional)

  • Now that your jeans are cut where you’d like for them to be, you can now fray the rips to add some pizazz to them! This can be done by rubbing an open pair of scissors against the rips.

Voilà!
