Ask Andi: How Can I Make My Skin Look Great Without Any Sleep

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Towson chapter.

Dear Andi,

I never sleep. Do you have any tips to make my skin look fresh and awake?

-Sleepless in Scarborough

Dear Sleepless in Scarborough,

College usually means being very busy.  Between classes, work, social life, clubs and assignments- sleeping is sometimes put off.  You don’t want to walk around looking like a zombie and there are a few tricks to prevent this.

A cold splash to wake up in a flash

Wash your face with cold water. The cold water will wake you up, but it will further tighten your pores.  This will make your skin look and feel more firm, which helps prevent the sagging and bagging after a sleepless night of cramming.  Try using a product like Clean and Clear-Morning Burst or Neutrogena Deep-Clean Facial Scrub.  Both of these facial washes contain exfoliates to clear away dirt and oil for a fresh, clean look.  Also both cause a tingling/cooling sensation which helps awaken you and makes you feel even cleaner!

Save the baggage for the airport

For swollen, sunken, and baggy eyes- apply a Ziploc of ice or a frozen bag of veggies to your eyes for five minutes in the morning.  You can do this right when you wake up so that you can lie in bed for five more minutes without being afraid of falling back asleep.  This will reduce swelling under your eyes and help wake you up. If your eyes are red, apply a few drops into them before using the cold compress.

Wake up with make-up

Concealer under your eyes will hide those dark circles.  A little bit of blush will give you a wide-awake look.  If you are not a big make-up wearer, even a bit of tinted Chap Stick and some moisturizer will do the job!

Hydrate and Caffeinate

So much as a small cup of coffee or a can of cola can have the caffeine to wake you up enough to look refreshed.  If you don’t like caffeine, or if you do as well, drinking water can do no harm.  Hydrating yourself will help you be more awake, alert and refreshed.  Drinking plenty of water will do wonders for your skin too!

So if you can’t find enough time between your pillow and the covers- don’t worry.  These four tricks will have you covered!  Everyone will wonder how manage to do everything you do and still manage to look so rested!

xoxo Andi
