Which Gilmore Girls character are you? (Zodiac Edition)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Toronto MU chapter.

If you’re anything like me and need to know a person’s zodiac sign as soon as you meet them, you probably connect astrology to virtually everything in your life.

When I’m watching a show or movie, I often find myself assigning characters the zodiac sign I think they most represent. Rather than leaving it in my head, I thought I’d write it out based on characters from one of my favourite shows: Gilmore Girls.

Here’s your Gilmore Girls character based on your zodiac sign:

Aries: Jess Mariano

While I’m forever team Jess, I can still recognize the major flaws that come with him. Jess is an Aries through and through. As the youngest sign, Aries can be quite stubborn, which is essentially all Jess is from seasons two to three. Being a fire sign, Aries can have a short temper but are also motivated and passionate. Jess exudes these qualities when he’s reading and conversing with Rory. When we get a glimpse of Jess’ life in season six, the selfish side of him has mellowed out and he’s more content and positive about his situation. Aries have no filter, just like Jess, and even when his comments come from a good place (aka. the “Why did you drop out of Yale?” confrontation) he just can’t help but say what he wants.

Taurus: Luke Danes

Luke serves Taurus energy constantly. As an earth sign, Taurus’ are generally very grounded homebodies. They are reluctant to change and slightly stubborn, just like Luke, who is adamant about sticking to his routine and living in Stars Hollow. Taurus’ are committed and have an all-or-nothing attitude. This trait is one of the reasons I see Luke as a Taurus because he was so ready to commit and give his all to Lorelai. Luke has a hard exterior but he’s very down-to-earth and gentle with the people he loves, traits commonly seen with this particular star sign.

Gemini: Tristan Dugray

While Tristan’s time on Gilmore Girls was short-lived, he had his hot and cold moments like the typical Gemini. Often known for being “two-faced,” as the constellation of Gemini is made up of twins, Tristan has a good and bad side to him. He was a little bit of a bully and snarky around his friends, but when it came to Rory, he showed a little bit of a sensitive side. Geminis are sometimes described as “never boring” and I can confidently say that I was always entertained when Tristan was in a scene.

Cancer: Emily Gilmore

Emily is incredibly strong but has a sensitive, emotional side to her. Cancers, a water sign, are known for being in-tune with their emotions. Cancers are represented by the crab, so they tend to keep their feelings to themselves and retreat in their shells. Emily keeps a lot of her opinions much more muted than what she really feels when it comes to Lorelai and Rory. Cancers are also interested in taking on other people’s problems, which Emily does with Richard and Lorelai. However, this zodiac sign is protective, and we really see that when Emily comes to defend Lorelai after Chris shows up at the house angry at the start of season three.

Leo: Lorelai Gilmore

Another fire sign, Leos are loud and confident. Lorelai is extremely bubbly and the life of the party in every setting. She’s witty, funny and is able to take the awkwardness out of every situation. Like many Leos, Lorelai is generous and always willing to open her space up to Rory’s friends and people in the community. However, Leos can have a vain or narcissistic side, matching up perfectly with Lorelai’s flaws. There are several situations in the show where Lorelai feels she’s in the right and makes it blatantly known. In season two, when Jess and Rory get into a car accident, Lorelai yells at Luke, blaming him for bringing Jess to Stars Hollow. While part of this anger comes from her instinct to protect Rory, she fails to understand that Luke is also worried about Jess. Leos are dreamers and independent, which are also Lorelai-like qualities.

Virgo: Rory Gilmore

While many see Rory as a Capricorn right off the bat, I feel that Virgo qualities describe her best. Virgos are organized and quick thinkers, which can also cause them to get stressed and tense. This encapsulates Rory’s character perfectly throughout the entire show. She’s a perfectionist but unlike Paris, who seems to keep up with her intense drive, Rory struggles to stay on that level. Rory is well-rounded knowledge-wise and has different hobbies, even if they are extremely intellectual. A quote from an Allure article notes that, “though Virgos long to be meticulous in all pursuits, they must remember that constantly chasing after the ideal can be destructive when applied to self or others.” Rory struggles with her climb to be a journalist and at the end of it all, we see Rory has failed to become the person she once thought she would be.

Libra: Sookie St. James

Libras are known to be charming and warm and Sookie exudes these qualities. She’s an open book and is happy around the people she loves. Sookie also helped guide Lorelai when she was struggling, which I think is an overlooked quality about her. Sookie is emphatic and compassionate. Her love language is definitely acts of service as she was always in the mood to cook for Jackson, Rory and Lorelai whenever they were in need. Libras go out of their way to help people and Sookie was someone Lorelai could always count on.

Scorpio: Dean Forester

While I’m kind of a Dean hater, I do love Scorpios, so I’m not opposed to describing his qualities. Dean does get some unnecessary hate, at least in the early seasons, when realistically he was just really in love with Rory and didn’t know how to deal with his emotions. Scorpios can often be categorized as jealous and resentful, and Dean was jealous of Jess the minute he got off that bus in Stars Hollow. He lashed out at Rory when Jess was around and tried to get in between their relationship as a form of revenge. However, Dean was very protective of Rory and truly cared for her.

Sagittarius: Logan Huntzberger

Probably considered Rory’s most mature boyfriend, Logan is emotionally intelligent and keeps up with Rory intellectually. Sagittarius are good at socializing and networking, just like Logan. They also generally have a good sense of adventure, as we see when Logan gets into trouble every now and then.

Capricorn: Paris Geller

Paris sticks to the rules and rarely falls out of line. She’s extremely ambitious and determined, and constantly pushes herself, all of which are Capricorn traits. At Chilton, Paris strives for perfection and while she is sometimes overwhelmed, her hard work constantly pays off. She takes a while to warm up to people, but as we see Paris mature during her time at Yale, she becomes more comfortable with herself. Since Paris was introduced, she has always stuck to a small group of friends, another Capricorn-like characteristic. While Paris is a little intense at times, she’s kind-hearted, and as a Capricorn myself, I see a little bit of myself in her.

Aquarius: Dave Rygalski

Dave, probably everyone’s favourite character, is creative and easygoing. Dave is extremely wholesome and treats everyone with kindness. Aquarius’ are described as empathetic and fair and Dave is all of those qualities. From the way he understood Lane and her situation to the way he truly cared about his bandmates, wanting to see them all succeed, Dave exudes all the likeable qualities of an Aquarius. Apparently, Aquarius and Pisces make a pretty good match, so maybe I’m onto something.

Pisces: Lane Kim

Pisces are described as dreamers and Lane has the biggest dreams in the show. Lane always aspired to be a drummer and I admired her ambition. As a water sign, Lane is sympathetic and sweet. She’s also a true romantic and sees the best in people. Lane had a complicated relationship with her mother, which stopped her from expressing how she truly felt a lot of the time. But I think her open-mindedness and positive outlook on life helped her get through rough times with her family.
