You got a taste of Solange in our series of posts about influential Black women on Instagram in mid-February, but the younger of the two Knowles sisters has been known to have very bold style, We’ve chosen three of what we believe are Solange’s best neutral, but still bold looks, that can easily inspire your spring looks.
In an interview for Interview Magazine, Solange was interviewed by older sister, Beyoncé. When the pair were growing up, Solange was known to “be attracted to the most interesting fashion, music, and art,” since she was around the age of 10. There’s no doubt that Solange’s childhood interests had an impact on the her currently evolving style. When asked by ELLE UK about her style inspiration, Solange said, “It’s truly about the woman and what they reflect and represent and the magic they possess that inspires me stylistically,” citing musicians such as Björk and Lauryn Hill.
So, let’s break down the style of Solange.

In early 2016, Solange`s brand Saint Heron Released released a collaboration with Australian brand C/MEO. The collection featured a few pastel shades, including this light pink LOOK (the flares are on sale for $187, if you’re feeling spendy) Tube tops, as well as flares are coming back into style, both being popularized in the 1970s. Along with old trends, a new one is going for a same-colour look. Whether it’s monochromatic, or one solid colour, it can seem daunting at first. However, this light light pink is subtle, and fairly harmless. Try this, and then work your way up to something bold, like all-red (Solange has a look for that too.)

During 2016’s New York fall/winter, fashion week, Solange was spotted at the Creatures of Comfort show, wearing what could be considered a “tame” look. The pop of colour coming from her vibrant violet eyeshadow. By adding the sheer trench coat and circular bag, both add some interest to the outfit. Adding any eye-catching clothing item or accessory to a plain outfit can elevate the impact of an outfit; It displays a minimal but fun outfit. Without the coat, a basic white tank and blue jeans could be considered bland, but nothing can really be bland on Solange.

In late November 2016, Solange attended the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in silver suit, by brand, Off-White. Menswear inspired suits, have been showing down the runway from brands such as Gucci (a brand Solange has worn before) for the past few fashion weeks, honing in on the “boyish” look (although anyone can wear a suit). Solange’s silver one is a fun, feminine twist on a typical suit. Having such a bold silver, stands out against the typical ball gown at an award show (no shade, dresses are nice too).When wearing a blazer or trousers (or both), the structure helps to give any woman the confidence she needs, just with a few pleats.
Solange’s style has much more to offer than these three ensembles, and considering the colour palette we used, these looks can be catered to your style in whichever way, as the colours were very neutral.
