5 things to do this winter in Toronto

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Toronto MU chapter.

Freezing cold winters are just around the corner, and I’m sure all everyone wants to do is skip classes and cuddle themselves up in a blanket in front of a fireplace with hot chocolate in their hands. Oh, how I love the vibe of winter!

If you still do not have anything planned for the snow season yet, don’t worry I got you covered.

Here are some fun things to do this winter with family and friends, and if you are a lone wolf, I have something for you as well.

1. Ice-Skating at Nathan Phillips Square

If you already live in Toronto, you already know the hype around ice-skating at Nathan Phillips because it is just so damn beautiful. If you are new to Toronto and this is your first winter, then you are in for one hell of an experience. Grab your friends or family and go out one night during the gorgeous snow season to hit the ice. It is okay if you do not have your own ice skates, you can always rent them from there. Do not miss out on this. Trust me, you are going to love it.

2. Family & Friends Game Night

No one is ever too old for board games. I mean who doesn’t want to own a whole country in Monopoly right? So, this winter, pick out your favourite games like Jenga, Pictionary or whichever games you like and bond with your family during a snowstorm outside. It might just help bring everyone a bit closer during the festive season.

3. Casa Loma Christmas Experience

If you have been or heard about Casa Loma, you probably know that it is famous for its spooky theme and haunted house, but did you know they also have a fairy-tale theme section for Christmas? If you head there during the Christmas season, you will see Santa workshops, Christmas décor and lots of Christmas trees to click photos around. Going would be an amazing experience for sure.

4. Take a Trip to Niagara Falls

People usually avoid going to Niagara Falls because of the cold weather and snow, but in my opinion, Niagara Falls in winter is just magical. Plan a trip right now with your friends to Niagara and be mesmerized by the night lights on the falls. (And it sure would be a lot less crowded!)

5. Me-Time Reading or Binging

If you are a person who loves to spend time alone during the winter and stay in, then I have the perfect thing for you. Spot a nearby library of yours, and you can sit there for hours without disturbance and read your heart out while still being unaware of the world outside. If you are a person who particularly does not enjoy reading, you can always take your laptop and headphones with you and watch your favourite series or movies.
