When I Say Country Music is Trash Never I am EVER Speaking About Kacey Musgraves

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

Kacey Musgraves has been the only country artist to ever infiltrate my Spotify playlist. Other than the occasional Dolly Parton and old Taylor Swift, the whole genre has never been something I was ever interested in… that was until I discovered the album “Golden Hour” by Kacey Musgraves. For the past 3 years, at least one song off of this album has been one of my top songs of the year. If you have not listened to this album I definitely recommend doing so as your ears will transcend into a whole new plane of melodic bliss. This album is quite literally the perfect album to listen to as you drive during golden hour through the large Texas roads. Not only this but this album has so many uplifting and positive messages about self-love and acceptance making it a great album to listen to when going through any hard time. I can account for this personally, as Musgraves’ lyrical genius helped me many times during a rough first semester at college. Every song off “Golden Hour” is an absolute masterpiece, however, there are a few songs that I find myself listening to on repeat multiple times a week including “Space Cowboy”, “Happy and Sad”, “Slow Burn”, and of course the title track “Golden Hour”. Each of these songs holds a special place in my heart and I would love for those of you reading to listen to any of these songs and understand where I’m coming from. Sure I may sound like a crazed Kacey Musgraves fan but I promise this admiration for her and her music is justified. The artist actually grew up an hour away from where I did, so it has been very refreshing seeing such parallels in both of our experiences growing up in Texas. Over the years I have grown to appreciate Musgraves’ artistry and hope one day to thank her for her contribution to my music taste and overall joy.
