Ways to Make the Best of Quarantine Time

At this point, I assume most of us have had a day or two of boredom or loneliness that we couldn’t quite figure out how to shake. I have discovered that on those days, there are a few activities that help me adopt a more positive outlook and appreciate my surroundings to a higher degree. Hopefully, some of these ideas will inspire you to adopt some fun and comforting quarantine practices of your own!

 

  1. Running outside

    1. Running outside has helped me a lot with managing stress and appreciating the world around me over the past month. I make sure to adhere to social distancing guidelines (staying six feet away from other people on the streets and trails I run on), but still offer those around me a cheerful smile and a “hello”. My daily runs have allowed me to briefly interact with others from a distance, while also giving me the chance to see the bluebonnets and soak up some sun.

  2. A photo challenge

    1. During my first week of quarantine, I decided to begin a challenge with myself. Because I am separated from my friends and am unable to leave my house as much as I would like, I promised myself that I would snap photos of the beautiful sights along my running path, outside my window, or on essential supply trips. These photos have pushed me to appreciate my surroundings on a deeper level and, as an added benefit, make me happy on days when I’m feeling slightly more down.

  3. Scheduled girls nights with friends

    1. I have found that scheduling a girls night with friends several days to a week in advance of the actual event is a great incentive to work hard before the date arrives, as well as a great way to keep track of time. I have had several FaceTime dates with friends at this point, and they never fail to make me smile.

  4. Get some takeout or delivery from your favorite restaurant.

    1. Nothing can infuse a little bit of normalcy into your life more than eating some of the food you love most! It’ll still come in the same container as usual and will give you the same warm and fuzzy feeling.
