Taylor Swift, genius in the studio and the kitchen

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

Taylor Swift has done it again with the release of Red (Taylor’s Version) and I just had to say that I was such a fan. Jake Gyllenhaal will never know peace again and I think that is very fair. It is a little beside the point but today I wanted, no needed, to talk about Taylor Swift and these damn chai tea cookies.

In the fall of 2014, Taylor Swift dropped a picture of these amazing looking cookies and I just knew that one day I would have to talk about them. They were chai tea cookies with an eggnog icing, and with the recent Taylor hype, I felt like it was a good time to finally try them out. It also helps that we’re coming into Thanksgiving, so if you need a last-minute recipe, this could be what you’ve been looking for.

First here’s what you’ll need for this super simple recipe:

Any sugar cookie mix

A packet of chai tea

For the eggnog icing:

1 cup of powdered sugar

¼ teaspoon of nutmeg

¼ teaspoon of cinnamon

3 tablespoons of milk or eggnog (preferably eggnog to keep it authentic)

Extra cinnamon to dust on top of the cookies

This recipe is very simple because all you have to do is follow the instructions on your sugar cookie mix, combine the pack of chai tea before you shape the dough, and bake them. The icing is also phenomenal, which isn’t surprising because Taylor is a genius. You can just throw all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix it up!

I was a little worried that the chai tea flavor would be super strong but it’s actually very subtle and goes surprisingly well with the eggnog icing. I was a huge fan and will be baking these every weekend for the rest of the year. To my family: I’m sorry in advance for the abundance of baked goods you’ll be consuming this month.

To wrap it all up, not only is Taylor a genius in the recording studio, but she’s also a genius in the kitchen. Now it’s time for me to curl up on the couch with these amazing cookies and rewatch All Too Well: The short film an unhealthy amount of times. Enjoy!
