The sudden turn in scorching weather signifies one thing: Summer is approaching and along with it comes the dreaded bikini season (http://youtu.be/7WLWC4Kj9pg)! But fret not collegiettes, I, a textiles and apparel major, scoured the shops of the Drag to find swimwear close to campus.
C. Jane: Approximately $64-89 per piece
This store is known for being a little bit pricey for the collegiette on a budget, but if you are looking for an exclusive swimsuit with unique features, then you might want to consider a swimsuit purchase from here as an investment.
The swimwear is from a line out of Southern California and exclusive to C. Jane in Texas. The selection was fair and included bandeau and string styled bikinis with special details from ruching to crochet (more styles available in store). In addition to a selection of colorful and bright swimwear, the store offers coordinating cover ups.
(Note: one of the swim suit styles was featured in Sports Illustrated)
Cotone: Approximately $45-75 per piece
Even though this store is further north than the other stores featured, it is well worth the walk. Cotone recently received a sample shipment of string bikinis (with a twist) from an exclusive designer in California. The styles are feminine and romantic ranging from bright to pastel colors and lots of ruffles.

Tyler’s: Price Range Varies
By far the best one-stop-shop for every collegiette, Tyler’s offers styles from one pieces to bikinis ranging from bandeaus to triangle to retro inspired. Their selection includes major brands such as Roxy, Hurley and Billabong. An added bonus is that they also offer board shorts and various other cover-ups that coordinate with the swimwear.
(Note: as of 4/28/12 they had select swimwear 50% off, I saw pieces as low as $20 per piece which is the cheapest I saw on the Drag.)
University Co-op: Approximately $30 per piece
Full of school spirit? Then after you finish reselling your books in the basement, head up to the second floor and pick up a swim suit! They have a one-piece and a selection of bikinis all featuring burnt orange. Check out the website for the complete selection.
Final Notes:
Urban Outfitters and American Apparel were two other stores that came to mind in the quest for the ultimate swimsuit. However, Urban Outfitters on the Drag sells swimwear exclusively online, and I was warned by freshman, Briana Danielle that American Apparel’s swimsuit tops are “very, very thin… borderline not safe.” Thus I did not venture into either store.
With that being said swimsuit shopping in general can be an unnerving experience, but remember to pick something that you feel comfortable in and can enjoy various activities while wearing it. No collegiette wants to be left out for fear of a wardrobe malfunction.
Good luck with finals, and I hope you have the best summer yet. Finally, remember to always be confident, beautiful you!
