This is a sponsored post as part of the “Fit for Summer” Challenge, presented by Dancers Shape and Her Campus Texas.
It’s a great feeling to know that hard work is paying off. I know that sounds cliche, but here we are, right in the middle of the challenge, and it’s time to step back and evaluate for a minute. I honestly didn’t know what to expect or how I would be feeling at this point. After two full weeks of classes at Dancers Shape, I’m actually seeing results. It’s exciting!
I got my first little confidence boost about a week and a half into the classes, when I put on my Nike shorts (aka UT uniform) that so kindly squeeze my waist in all the wrong places and noticed… there wasn’t quite as much there to… squeeze. Nothing sums up this little piece of progress better than Jenna Maroney’s hit from 30 Rock (which I definitely had stuck in my head ALL day).
So, visible results? Check.
Next came the realization that all those intense muscle exercises we do in Shape class are really doing the trick and making me stronger. I sometimes bike to class, and it can be a challenge. Since campus is basically one giant hill, there’s usually an easy route to class and an uphill battle back home. This week, however, that ride back up to Guadalupe wasn’t so bad. I felt my legs burning as I pedaled up the hill, but my muscles could actually handle it without completely wearing me out.
Noticeable increase in strength? Check.
Now, as for the whole “eating less junk and trying to be healthy” thing… well, that part is a little more complicated. I was doing well, stocking my fridge with healthy snacks and avoiding too much temptation. Then the weekend hit, and I was bombarded with family dinners, Mexican food, and an Easter cupcake adventure that called for a lot of sugar and a lot more willpower.
Giving in to a few not-so-healthy food choices? Check.
It’s easy to let those few bad choices discourage me, especially since it feels like they’re holding back my progress. But I’m certainly not giving up now. It’s a new week, with healthy choices to be made and classes to be taken. After all, summer’s just around the corner.
