Collegiettes™, we are well into the spring semester (Spring Break is a month away. Eep!) and we’re getting busier and busier. Class, organizations, socials, and other obligations are tying up our time and it’s easy to forget about taking care of yourself. After countless emails and endless chapters, I sometimes look in the mirror and think “Do I know this crazy woman? Why does she look so tired? Someone needs a hug.” Luckily for me, this past week was Austin Beauty Week. ABW is a 5-day long event celebrating beauty as well as promoting the Central Texas Go Red for Women campaign, which is dedicated to eradicating heart disease in women. It’s all about taking care of yourself inside and out. Some participating businesses offer discounts for services, which was a perfect excuse to get me out of the library and into a leopard salon chair.

I went to Urban Betty, located in the 26 Doors Shopping Center and just a short drive away from campus. Okay, I went in between classes like an insatiable workaholic, but it just worked perfectly into my schedule! It turns out that a trim at Urban Betty was just the calm in the storm I needed. Nina, my wonderful stylist, greeted me with a hug and transformed my split ends into a glorious, bouncy mane. I went back to class a transformed woman and toting flyers for Urban Betty’s Before and After Facebook promotion (win $100 to the salon for most liked Before/After picture) and Nina’s Valentine’s Day hair & makeup package. Spending a little time and money (seriously, the Beauty Week discount on an already inexpensive student cut made me so happy) was just what I needed. But you don’t need to go out to a salon to revive yourself from the obligations of being a Longhorn lady in demand. Settle down with a movie and do your nails or spend an extra 5 minutes in that hot shower. Look at that crazy woman you may see in the mirror and flash her a killer smile. You’ve been working hard, you deserve it.

My fabulous “after” picture!
