This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tennessee chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

Olivia Morin is a senior at UTK. She is a French major, and she is hoping to go medical school in the fall. Besides being a full-time student and working on her med school applications, Olivia is a leader on campus. She is member of Delta Gamma sorority, where she has held many positions, and she has also served on the executive board for Dance Marathon, an annual philanthropy benefitting East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Her newest leadership role, though, is president of Order of Omega, a Greek honor society for juniors and seniors on campus. She oversees the executive board that coordinates philanthropy activities, membership and finances for more than 100 members.

What are your responsibilities as president of Order of Omega?
I organize meetings for the chapter and executive board, and I am a resource for other officers if they need help. Mainly, I make sure everything runs smoothly. I have a hand in everything that goes on with the group, but I delegate a lot of things to others. This year, I have focused on trying to boost our image to raise awareness about the organization so we can do more in the future.

What made you want to run for president?
Last year I was the philanthropy chair, and I wanted to become more involved and more active in Order of Omega. Also, I felt I had experience that could help the chapter grow.

What is your favorite part about your role as president?
I feel like I am a leader amongst leaders, because there are so many great people in the chapter. We are a unique group representing different Greek chapters on campus, and I have a lot of resources to use. Most of the chapter members are very involved on campus and everyone is full of ideas. I like working with people that want to get involved and help the community.

How do you balance this with school and your other activities?
I had to learn time management, something I have been working on since freshman year. I also had to learn how to let others help me. Delegating well and focusing on what you want to do is very important. I do not have as much free time as other people might, but it’s worth it to have influence and be a leader on campus.

Would you encourage others to run for leadership positions?
Definitely; being president of an organization shapes who you are as a leader and a person. When you go out to apply for graduate school and jobs, having leadership experience will make you stand out, but you’ll need leadership experience in those roles. Learning things like giving presentations, speaking in front of others and delegating responsibilities will help you throughout your life.
