Your Next Meal Idea Is On Me, But This Time Support Small Businesses.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

Breakfast, lunch, or dinner rolls around and once again you’re fighting over where to eat. You are certainly sick of the usual takeout and definitely don’t want to cook. Where should you eat this time? Don’t worry I have some options for the next time you just don’t wanna eat that same meal again.

Here are some of my favorite small and local businesses in Philadelphia to get your next meal.

My go-to breakfast place: Her Daughters Cafe

This cafe just had its grand opening on Saturday, September 12th so I had to go check it out. This cafe is perfect if you are looking for a unique twist on breakfast, lunch, or desserts. Her Daughters Cafe was meant to open earlier, but COVID-19 pushed it back. They have fought through the struggles of the pandemic and have finally opened their doors. Some of my fav suggestions on their menu are:

  1. Cool Ranch-  Cream cheese and bacon topped with cool ranch Doritos. This was my absolute favorite.
  2. Scones, scones, scones!- They have so many flavors to try from it’s amazing. Two examples are pumpkin cheesecake and chocolate peanut butter.
  3. Giant Cereal Treats- If you loved rice Krispy treats growing up, they have made them bigger and better. They offer giant versions of these cereal treats in different flavors such as fruity pebbles and cinnamon toast crunch.

My go-to lunch place: GForce Juice Bar

This place is more than just a juice bar. They offer unique and delicious smoothies, juices, toast variations, and their famous acai bowls. They are known for their healthy fresh food that is made in front of you. Some of my personal favorites are:

  1. The Gym Freak- This smoothie has strawberries, bananas, peanut butter, honey, and the popular birthday cake protein powder. This shake is perfect for the gym-goer training to get some protein in their life.
  2. Pure Withdrawl Juice- I never would have imagined loving a green juice, but this one changed my mind. This not only gets you the vital greens you need in your diet, but does it in a delicious way. This juice is filled with kale, spinach, apples, and pineapples so it gives you the greens, but also the flavor you want.
  3. The GBowl- There aren’t many places in Philadelphia that sell acai bowls, but Gforce has grown popular for there delicious bowls. This bowl has acai, strawberries, bananas, and blueberries topped with Nutella

My go-to dinner place: The Better Box

This small black-owned restaurant is a must-have for those who love Chinese takeout but want it with a twist. With two great locations, you can always count on them for delicious unique meals.

Some of my personal favorites are:

  1. Firecracker Salmon cheesesteak- This is a delicious variation of your usual Philly cheesesteak. Philly cheesesteak meets seafood and it’s so worth it.
  2. Firecracker cheese fries- Classic cheese fries, but once again with its own unique twist. Cheese fries topped with firecracker salmon.
  3. Homemade Sweet Potato Cheesecake – Homemade pie is always a hit, but this pie is irresistible for dessert.

Now more than ever a small owned businesses need your help. The pandemic has caused many businesses to struggle or go out of business. Help these businesses survive by eating small and local!
