Why I Dress Up for Finals Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

The morning of my very first final…I woke up late. I had 10 minutes to get ready, and I had wanted to look decent for this final. I knew that if I didn’t look presentable, I would feel iffy about myself, and it would distract me from what could practically make or break my grade.

I have heard a lot about dressing up for finals week, and honestly, I think it comes down to what will make you feel most comfortable and confident during the final. On one of the days I took a final, my main goal was to be comfy. I wanted it to feel like I was taking a test in my living room, so I wore yoga pants, a sweatshirt, and my favorite sneakers. I got to the test room and felt comfortable; just what I was going for. As I looked around the room, there were girls in casual skirts, and there were girls with no makeup and sweats on. No matter what, a little makeup makes me feel put-together, so that was obviously a must. I think rolling out of bed and barely even making it to a final would make me feel as though I had really never gotten out of bed in the first place.

My second final was at 3:00, so I figured I would put on a sweater and some black jeans and boots, but that isn’t really ‘dressing up’ for me. I enjoy looking nice for class some days, and I go for more of an athleisure look other times. Some people despise dressing up, and others kill for the opportunity to throw on their best look. So, my advice to you this holiday…I mean finals season…is to wear what makes you feel ready to ace your final. Whether that is rolling out of bed and wearing some comfy sweats, or throwing on a really nice outfit…all that matters is that you GET there, and put in your best effort. Happy finals!
