The Whipped Coffee Recipe You Need to Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

We are about a month into quarantine, and the popular app Tik Tok has got me trying some pretty crazy things. Not only have I learned a majority of the iconic dances, but now it’s got me making all sorts of recipes. Out of the pure boredom of quarantine, I can officially consider myself a low-grade chef. For those who have no idea about Tik Tok, I definitely recommend downloading it right now, because I can promise that it will cure your boredom. Seriously, I’ve been on the app way too much this past week to the point where I think I’ve created an addiction. Anyway, there is this trend going on right now called “Whipped Coffee.” I don’t know who started it, but I’ve been seeing it everywhere on my “For You” page. Basically, you can create this creamy whipped coffee with only three simple ingredients. Now, I fall victim to always buying from coffee shops. Saxby’s in Philadelphia is my weakness, and it stopped me from ever making coffee at home. However, after trying this whipped coffee challenge, it was a game changer. My craving for going out and buying coffee won’t return anytime soon, thankfully, because we’re only supposed to leave our houses for essentials. And as much as I’d like to consider my morning coffee an essential, it’s not worth the risk! Below are the steps to make whipped coffee in the comfort of your own kitchen.

Ingredients:

1.    2 tbsp of INSTANT coffee *It is not the same as ground coffee beans; I made that     mistake already*

2.     2 tbsp of sugar and hot water

Supplies:

1.    Mixing bowl

2.    Measuring spoon

3.    Spoon or whisk (anything useful for mixing)

First Step:

Measure out 2 tbsp of coffee, sugar and hot water, and place it into a bowl.

Second Step:

Mix together all these ingredients until you get the consistency you want. *I was mixing for about 10 minutes until I got some progress, so don’t give up* You’ll know you’re done when there is a light brown whipped cream consistency.

Third Step:

Grab a glass and pour in ice and milk. I prefer to use almond or coconut milk.

Fourth Step:

Top it off with your bowl of whipped coffee

Ta-Da! You’ve got yourself some delicious whipped coffee!

It took me a couple tries to get the consistency right, because I had little patience for mixing. I would recommend using an automatic mixer, because simply mixing with a spoon doesn’t work as well, plus your hand starts to hurt. Who would’ve thought that a recipe so easy could taste so good!? The best way to describe this drink is a lesser version of a Starbucks latte, without waiting in the drive thru line — (you’ll still catch me waiting for my strawberry acai refresher though). Would I do it again? Yes — it was simple, and I’d recommend trying it out and sharing your results. I know a couple friends who already put up their own Tik Toks showing off their whipped coffee recipes. Hope you enjoy this tasty drink while getting your caffeine fix at home!
