Springtime at Temple University means spending time outside in the warming weather studying and hanging with friends. The place to be is Beury Beach, but on a beautiful spring afternoon there may not be any room on the beach. So where are the best places to go on campus when you’re studying, throwing a Frisbee, soaking up the sun, or just chilling with your friends? Here are six places to hang out on campus when the weather is fine.

Alumni Circle: Best Place for Outdoor Study.  For those who like to study in the sunshine, Alumni Circle, located on Berks Walk between Liacouras and 13th, is perfect for feeling the breeze and having just enough quite to concentrate. Alumni circle itself usually has plenty of unoccupied benches, and the grassy area on the Liacouras side is ideal for lying down with a good book.

The Lawn of Gladfelter: Best Place to Throw a Frisbee.
Beury Beach can sometimes become too crowded to move around, making Frisbee a hazardous sport. The wide area in front of Gladfelter Hall near College of Engineering and Architecture is the best place on campus to toss a football or bring your puppy for catch because of its large, minimally occupied grass space. Don’t assume there’s nowhere to stretch out your legs on campus without going to the gym or the track!

Cecil Skate Park: Best Place to Break Out Your BMX.

Not only is Cecil Skate Park, located on Cecil B. Moore behind Broad Street Subway Line North, the best place for skaters and BMXers, it’s also a great place to watch talented students show off their skills. With benches and grass all around, Cecil Skate Park is a relaxing area with entertainment.

Tyler Hill: The Best Place to Have a Picnic Lunch.
When the sun shines on Tyler School of Art, located on Norris Street, Temple students flock for a place to spread their blankets. Tyler is conveniently located near some of the campus’s best food trucks, like the Crepe Truck, the Cupcake Lady (Thursdays at noon), and the Dapper Dog, a new hot dog stand on 13th and Norris. Therefore, if you’re going to eat lunch outside anywhere on campus, Tyler Hill is the ideal location to do so.

Liacouras Walk: Best Place to Bring Your Guitar.

Like the Bell Tower, Liacouras Walk gets tons of foot traffic on campus and has plenty of seating, which is ideal for those who want to strum and hum in public. While Beury Beach may be too loud to play music, Liacouras Walk seems to be the perfect balance of background noise.

Grass Plot on Top of Anderson: Most Random Place to Feel Secluded.
Some of us may be confused about the seemingly random grass plot on second floor roof of Anderson Hall. Regardless of its original purpose, the grass plot is an effective area to seclude yourself from the city or the campus, whether you want to stare at the clouds or bury yourself in a book.

The Bell Tower: Best Place to People Watch.
Beury Beach and the Bell Tower are, by far, the hot spots on campus where it’s more likely than easy to find friends sunning themselves on the grassy slope. If you’re a social butterfly bored on a beautiful day, find friends at the Bell Tower. If you’re looking to people watch (we all do it and no, it’s not creepy) one of the most areas for foot traffic is around the Bell Tower.

Warning: Places to Avoid!
Despite its grass deficiency, Temple has a number of great places to hang out outside. However, there are some places you should be weary of, like the benches between Annenburg and Johnson and Hardwick, which are a favorite hot spot for carpenter bees. Just remember to enjoy the beautiful day while it lasts and put on sunscreen!
