What To Do in Philly This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

It’s finally fall! This means it’s time for comfy sweaters, different colored leaves, Halloween parties, and (of course) pumpkins! At Temple, we are fortunate to have access to fall events on campus and in the greater area of Philadelphia. If you are looking to do something fun to celebrate this awesome season, here are some ideas for some things that you can do both in the city and on campus:

Go to some fall events and festivals

The best way to truly enjoy the fall season is to go to all the different events around the city. Dilworth Park at City Hall is hosting is hosting Oktoberfest, which will include drinks, food, and live music, from October 11 to October 15. They will also hold a Fall Market from October 13 to October 15. For more information, visit the Center City District Park’s website, where you can also check out the other festivals and events happening around the city that you don’t want to miss.

Go Apple Picking

If you like eating apples and spending time outdoors, apple picking is the perfect fall activity for you. There are tons of orchards in the surrounding areas of Philadelphia that are worth the commute. You may also be able to pick some pumpkins, purchase apple cider, and even apple cider doughnuts, which are as amazing as they sound. You can find a list of all the orchards in PA here

Go to The Eastern State Penitentiary Terror Behind the Walls

Be it your first, second, or fifth time to Eastern State, the Terror Behind the Walls exhibit is bound to give you the freaks. Terror Behind the Walls is a haunted house attraction that happens every year around Halloween time and is located inside The Eastern State Penitentiary. It’s the perfect place to go to get into the Halloween spirit with your friends or a date, if you don’t mind a little fright. There’s even an option that allows the actors to touch you and separate you from your group.  This might be too scary for some – but then again, it’s a great opportunity for your date to put his arm around you. If you enjoy being scared or just want the experience, be sure to check it out.

Stay on campus

If you’re stressed out, like I am, you may have too much work on your hands to leave campus. Don’t let this prevent you from enjoying the nice fall weather- take your study session outside. This is the best way to get the fresh air you need while still being productive. Also, a study break never hurt anyone – so keep in mind that giving yourself time to enjoy the season may be necessary for your mental health.

And, of course, there will definitely be on-campus events that you can go to. Homecoming week is October 9 to October 15, so get ready to welcome home the 2017 fall season!

Whether you stay on campus or you want to explore different events in the city, make sure to take advantage of this season and the many fun things that there are to do.
