Trending Makeup Looks That are Sure to Make Your Eyes Pop

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

Masks, unfortunately, have become a wardrobe must-have within the last six months. Commonly, society’s trendsetters went from wearing disposable medical masks at the beginning of quarantine, to purchasing (or making) adorable protective gear as they realized that the trend is here to stay. Sorry to break the news, but masks are not going anywhere. However, just because a piece of cloth covers half of your face doesn’t mean that you have to let it dull your sparkle. Masks can help us kickstart our creativity and push us out of our comfort zone. They can also inspire us to play around with makeup and emphasize our already existing beautiful features. Here’s what you need to rock a fun makeup look while wearing a mask!

Fun Colored Eyeliner and Mascara

An easy trick to give your everyday look variety is to switch up your eyeliner or mascara. Colored eyeliners are currently on-trend and affordable. Some high quality and inexpensive brands are NYX and Colourpop. Visit any local Ulta, and you’ll be able to find a wide variety of bright yellows, vibrant pinks, electric lilacs, deep blues, and jade greens to compliment any outfit. My personal favorite, the NYX liquid liners, can be used to make a statement cat-eye. If a cat eye is too much out of your comfort zone, try playing around with lowkey colored mascaras. Blue mascara is a fun way to keep the “natural look” while still trying something new. Using black eyeliners and mascaras can get boring, so utilizing the affordability and creativity that NYX and Colourpop offer can bring attention to anyone’s already beautiful eyes.

Inner-Corner Eye Shadow

Give yourself a subtle, natural glow or a smidge of color by lightly dusting your favorite eye shadow on the inner corner of your eye. I’m no makeup expert, and I don’t have the time in the morning to accomplish a full cut crease or eye look. Applying shadow to your inner corners is the perfect way to emphasize your eyes. If you’re going for a natural look, try a gold or neutral shade. If you’re looking for something a little jazzier, grab a fun shade you’ve been dying to test out, or a color that you often get complimented on.

Early 2000s Inspired Shadow

If you’re on the side of TikTok that I’m on, you may have noticed some childhood styles flaring up again. These include old-school butterfly clips, rimless sunglasses, and most importantly, blue and pink shimmery eye looks. The early 2000s are 100% coming back in style, whether you like it or not. Not sure if you’re into the trend? Search “early 2000s makeup looks” on Pinterest to get some inspiration. This trend is the perfect way to channel your inner Lizzie Maguire or Britney Spears by playing around with shimmery, light blues and pinks.

This time is hard for all of us fashion and beauty gurus. We want to go out and dress up, but those moments rarely come nowadays. Playing around with your eye makeup is an easy way to get some pep back in your step and give you more inspiration. If none of these ideas seem up your alley, try looking on Pinterest and see what’s trending. Good luck!
