If you’ve watched television at all this week, you might’ve came across the trailer promoting the new film American Reunion. It is the 8th, yes 8th, film in the American Pie film franchise and it features the original cast from the first three movies. The other four were simply spin-offs from the original story and they often ended up being straight-to-DVD releases.

So, nine years later and four poorly rated films later, someone decides that the world somehow needs another American Pie. Really? The movie industry today has been using sequels to fall back on, in order to further pad a year of films that would only have a handful of above-average movies.  Will Ferrell just made an elaborate announcement, in- character, on Conan O’Brien’s show about the creation of a sequel to his 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

Another announcement was made saying that a sequel would also be made to the 1988 Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Twins whose entire premise revolved on the idea that Schwarzenegger and DeVito were somehow twins. The proposed sequel Triplets throws veteran comedian Eddie Murphy into the mix.

It seems as though all these continuations of stories are here to stay at least until some real creativity comes out.
