Savage X Fenty Fashion Show Vol. 4: Rihanna Does it Again

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

Music icon Rihanna and her fourth Savage X Fenty fashion show.

On November 9th, 2022, volume four of the Savage x Fenty fashion show was added to Amazon Prime. The nearly hour-long show came back for another year, with no lack of celebrity appearances, elaborate dance montages, and stunning new fashions. Since 2019, Rihanna has put on a show that features her seasonal collections for her acclaimed lingerie, sleepwear, and loungewear brand.

Rihanna has built herself up as a force to be reckoned with in seemingly every professional niche. This next year, she will be the headliner of the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, whilst simultaneously heading billion-dollar companies and being a new mother. Despite all these different roles Rihanna takes up, the show this year was nothing short of spectacular.

The location of this year’s show took place in an 87-acre botanical garden in California. The garden brings us back to our roots quite literally, evoking an artistic and rebirth feel to the show. Models and dancers moved through the trees like they were one with the nature that surrounded them. As they moved the camera showcased their sensual looks and highlighted the celebrities who walked amongst them. Sightings ranged from, Rihanna herself, Taraji P. Henson, Simu Liu, Marsai Martin, Cara Delevingne, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and as a bit of a controversial choice, Johnny Depp.

Despite being a show that centers around fashion, Rihanna would not be the musical figure she is without putting an emphasis on the show’s musical aspects as well. This volume featured musical performances from om Anitta, Burna Boy, Don Toliver, and Maxwell. When artists weren’t singing live, the show featured popular songs like D.M.B by her partner A$AP Rocky, Just a Lil Bit by 50 Cent, So Fresh, So Clean by OutKast, and many other songs that Amazon Music compiled into a playlist. The show was truly an ode to songs that have defined rap and hip-hop culture.

Something that remains the same from year to year, is the brand and shows values. The brand is known for its inclusivity, featuring models in the shows that range in size, race, and gender. In the show’s press release, the collection was said to be, “An homage to self-expression and personal empowerment…” two things that are definitely felt while watching the show.

Rihanna has created brands that are not only good in terms of quality, but also stand based on solid morals. She has married her passions and her values into her career prospects, which is something that should be celebrated. If you have not already done so, do yourself a favor and watch the newest volume of the Savage x Fenty fashion show.
