Red Band Society Episode 9: “How Did We Get Here?”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

“Life is all about the choices you make.” The show starts with the hospital seemingly in disarray and we go back 24 hours to figure out what happened. Jordi is ready to file emancipation papers but a fee of $400 puts his plans on hold. And Delaney Shaw, a pop star, checks into the hospital and wrecks havoc on everyone.

Dr. Grace and Dr. McAndrew have a talk about their past relationship and it seems as if things could be going somewhere, much to Jackson’s dismay, meanwhile; Nurse Brittany has her own date to attend. Things are heating up between Kara and Hunter, but Jackson interrupts before things get too far, “You and Hunter should not be.”

Leo is told that he may be able to go home early due to his improvement and to counteract that; Emma lies about her condition to a doctor and is told she can go home even though she is not ready. When Leo confronts her about being excited, she clearly doesn’t share the same feeling and he mistakes it as her fear of breaking up.

Kara puts her heart monitor on another patient as she tries to have sex with Hunter, but the absence of a condom forces them to put it off. Dr. McAndrew finds out the Dr. Grace has a boyfriend, who leaves him flustered and Grace confused. Dash finds himself falling in love with Delaney and she thinks about taking Dash’s virginity. As she ponders over Dash, she promises Jordi a shot at meeting her manager if he can get her ten pills.

Emma walks into her room to find a letter requesting her presence with Leo at seven o’clock as Jordi professes his dream of becoming a singer to Dash. McAndrew blows up at Grace for leading him on and teasing him with her new boyfriend. Their dispute comes to the realization that there relationship ended because he never brought up marriage, “It’s who you are!”

Jordi steals pills for Delaney and Kara finds herself going to Emma for condoms. “Attraction and love are not the same,” the girls fight about the way they handle themselves in their relationships with Kara having the last word, “Slut shame me all you want, but I’m not the one lying to my boyfriend on a daily basis.”

On her horrible date, Nurse Brittany is by McAndrew after creating a crazy story about being a surrogate and the two of them are left alone. After Dash is forced to give Delaney a belly ring, she is about to grant Dash his wish when Jordi interrupts. He gives her eight pills, winning himself eight minutes of her time.

Leo surprises Emma with a dinner on the rooftop, making it their first official date. They remember the first time they met, but the moment is ruined when Leo’s shoe catches fire. Nurse Brittany and McAndrew share their first kiss but McAndrew puts a stop to it, “We can’t do this.” At Oceanpark, Kara opens up to Hunter and decides to wait before having sex, but he suddenly faints.

Delaney enjoys Jordi’s performance but breaks her promise by not introducing him to her manager because they would like him more than her. She makes up for it by giving him money for the pills. Kara surprisingly finds herself looking for comfort from Nurse Jackson, “It’s my job to protect your heart in every single way.”

It turns out that Brittany and McAndrew had a one-night stand, but Brittany mistook it for something more. When she realizes the night meant nothing, she leaves McAndrew with a black eye. And Emma finally confronts Leo about his lack of understanding her anorexia after he brings her a box of chocolate, “you don’t get it and you never will.”

The show ends with Leo being told that he won’t be leaving as soon as thought and Jordi putting the drug money towards his emancipation fee. When McAndrew walks in with a black eye, he gets comfort from Dr.Grace and Emma is getting ready to leave the hospital. A concerned Leo tries to talk some sense into her, “I see you, you just have to tell somebody the truth,” but she leaves anyway.
