*HCTU Spoiler Alert!*

“Going home is never as simple or as easy as you predict; you never know what awaits you when walk through that door.” Charlie eloquently starts the show with his usual opening monologue as Kara prepares to go to Homecoming with her minion by her side. It would simply be a “minajesty” in her world if she could not attend the event of the year.

Leo still finds himself struggling with his prosthetic leg after he gets an email from a Stanford college soccer recruiter who saw him play last year. Even though the possibility of him playing college soccer seems crazy, Nurse Jackson sets Leo up with a professional basketball player who also has a prosthetic leg and has gone on to have a successful career in Europe.

With Kara’s Oscar-winning performance, she is able to get Nurse Jackson’s approval to go to Homecoming, but Jackson isn’t so quick to warm up to Jordi’s mother, Eva. She confides in Dr. McAndrew, by telling him that Eva is not trustworthy; if someone makes a mistake, “it doesn’t mean they have to be forgiven.”

With the buzz of homecoming swarming the hospital, Nurse Brittany, who’s getting over a break up, and Emma, who’s never been to Homecoming, decide to crash Kara’s special day, but Kara is quick to show her disapproval and decides to pull the I-don’t –know-you card. The night becomes interesting though when Leo decides to show up as Emma’s date.

Kara asserts her authority at the gathering and everything seems to be going well until it goes wrong. Her friends make a goodbye video for her since they believe she’s going to die soon but in Kara’s own words, “I’d rather be screwed than loved.” Kara despises being pitied; to make things worst she is forced to accept her crown in a wheelchair.

As Dash and Jordi play poker and stash weed, Eva allows the boys to go to the movies even though Jordi just went through his first round of chemo; this may not be such a good idea. Dr.McAndrew gets upset with Eva after he finds out that she sent Jordi to the movies, opening his eyes to what Nurse Jackson was saying, but not before Eva comes on to him. While at the movie theaters, Jordi passes out, and Dash is the one to get him help.

Once Jordi is back at the hospital, Eva is forced to face the facts once she realizes she has been oblivious to how serious Jordi’s illness is, so she does what she does best and leaves Jordi again. This time he got to watch her leave from the window, instead of innocently asking where his mother went.

Back at the dance, Emma gains some admirers after confessing that her eating disorder gave her the body they all want and even poses for selfies and Leo comes to Kara’s rescue onstage, by running up to put a stop to the pity fest. He gives her the greatest/meanest speech and his reward was a kiss from an excited Kara as Emma watched from the gymnasium floor.

By the end of the night, Leo gives a jealous Emma a blunt speech, “you don’t get pitied, you don’t have to be here.” Meanwhile Dr. McAndrew apologizes to Nurse Jackson for not trusting her instinct as he presents her with papers that relinquish Eva’s rights as Jordi’s guardian.

The show ends with Kara officially releasing her minion after deciding she will no longer go to her school. Leo puts an end to his soccer dream because he doesn’t want to be a sob story, and Emma embracing her newfound popularity that keeps her from eating.

“Home just might be the feeling you get around people that care about you the most. And if that’s the case, you might already be home.” The teens were forced to look back on their lives prior to living in a hospital and they didn’t exactly like what they experienced, but who ever said the hospital couldn’t be there new home?
