A Look Back At Harry Styles’ Most Iconic Halloween Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

Harry Styles, the boy band-member-turned-international-popstar, seems to be a jack (and master) of all trades. Not only did his sophomore album, Fine Line, receive both commercial success and critical acclaim, but the singer is also set to star in the upcoming Olivia Wilde film, Don’t Worry Darling. In addition to being a talented performer, Styles is known for his daring and fun fashion sense. Over the years, he has put these skills to the test by donning some interesting Halloween costumes.

1. Scooby-Doo

Even before he was famous, Styles clearly knew how to have fun. Fans speculate Styles’ full body Scooby-Doo costume to be from 2008 or 2009, although the singer has never provided any clarification himself.

2. Miley Cyrus

Following Miley Cyrus’ iconic VMA performance in 2013, Styles put his hair into two buns, slipped into a pair of nude shorts, and grabbed a white foam finger to mimic Cyrus’ performance outfit. A picture of his costume was posted on Instagram by Styles’ longtime friend and coworker, Lou Teasdale. The Instagram post was accompanied by the caption, “And one for Anne x,” referencing Styles’ mother.

3. Elton John

Styles continued his trend of dressing up as other celebrities in 2018 when he wore Elton John’s infamous sparkly Dodgers outfit as a Halloween costume. Interestingly, Elton John wore his original Dodgers jumpsuit on the exact same day in 1975 as Styles is pictured to be wearing his costume 43 years later! Elton John was so amused by Styles’ efforts that he even posted a picture of the singer on his Instagram with the caption, “Now that’s what I call a Halloween costume.”

4. Stormtrooper

Images of Styles in a Stormtrooper costume were posted on a friend’s Instagram story in 2019. Styles, pictured with fellow singer Kacey Musgraves, seems to be embracing the role fairly well. After the Halloween pictures were released, it was confirmed by Mark Hamil on Twitter that Styles did indeed have a cameo as a Stormtrooper in the latest Star Wars film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as some of Styles’ fans had speculated.

As it is evident by his eclectic array of Halloween costumes, Styles is clearly fond of the holiday. In February, Styles even announced he would be hosting two special Halloween concerts he called “Harry Styles: Harryween Fancy Dress Party.” Unfortunately, “Harryween” was postponed until October 2021 due to COVID-19 and its resulting limitations on public gatherings. Although the star is not able to celebrate the holiday this year with his fans as he planned, next year promises costumes that will undoubtedly be worth the wait!
