To be the main character of your life, you don’t need to be a picture-perfect Pinterest girl dancing through the streets of Paris. We’re so used to looking at what others have, and are overwhelmed by envy, but it doesn’t have to be this way. If you’re sick of always wanting what you can’t have, it’s time to action and become the main character of your life.

Stop focusing on others. It’s time to start focusing on your own goals, whether it be education, career path, or any other passion. Nobody is going to help you become your own main character, you need to do this yourself.

Make the most of your life. If being in quarantine for almost a year has taught us anything, it’s taught us that we have to make the most of our life. You don’t need to capture every single moment on your iPhone to prove that you’re living your best life. Now’s the time to be taking risks and treating yourself, check off everything on your bucket list, and be grateful for all of life’s little moments.

Put yourself first. Put your mental health first. You need to be doing things that make you feel good both physically and mentally. Maybe that means taking up journaling or painting or trying to go outside once a day. Whatever it may be, put your health first, don’t be afraid of a mental health day every now and then.

Work on your insecurities. Your happiness can only come from you. It isn’t easy to learn to love yourself, but it is rewarding. Basing your goals off of self love rather than insecurities makes your achievements so much more meaningful. Affirm your value every day and reflect on all the good things that your life has to offer you.

Make your playlist. This is more optional, but who doesn’t want to have their own lifestyle playlist? Listen to it while you’re out on a walk or cleaning your dorm to help make mundane tasks fit your mood. Every main character has their own playlist, now it’s your turn!

Remember, anyone can be the main character of their life, you don’t have to be wandering around the streets of some European country to accomplish this. Get rid of the poster girl main character that’s in your head and become your version of the main character. It’s time to stop treating yourself like the supporting character and put yourself first. Do the things that make you feel like you’re at your happiest and redefine who you are.
