Fox is Bringing Back ‘Grease’!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

The day you’ve been waiting for has arrived… Grease is making a comeback to the small screen!

FOX originally announced their plan for the three-hour live premiere of Grease in April of 2014. The network is following in the footsteps of NBC’s major success from their live airing of the Sound of Music with 2.2 million viewers last year and Peter Pan starring Allison Williams this year.

“From Broadway to film and across generations, Grease is one of the most beloved musical stories ever told,” mentioned Senior Vice President of Event Series at Fox, Shana C. Waterman. “Its iconic characters and addictive songs make it the perfect fit for FOX, and we’re going to give it the kind of star power and production quality to make every Sandy, Danny, Rizzo, and Kenickie out there want to get up and sing along.”

Not only will singing along like an idiot at home not be an issue, but wait till you hear who they casted for Sandy and Rizzo!

None other than the Dancing with the Stars Julianne Hough will be filling the shoes of the iconic Olivia Newton John by playing the lead role of Sandy. “’Grease’ is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy,” Hough mentioned in a statement after the casting information was released.

Can you picture Julianne Hough as a Sandra Dee?

Vanessa Hudgens, the Spring Breakers star, has also been casted and is set to play the fiery character we all love to hate: Rizzo. “Playing Rizzo is something I’ve never imagined, and I love that because it will be a new challenge.”

Other characters are still yet to be announced, and the most important question is which Hollywood hunk will they choose to play heartthrob Danny Zuko?!

The suspension will have to wait because Grease isn’t set to premiere until Sunday, January 31 2016. Yes, that means we have to wait an entire year for the live airing to occur. But still go and mark your calendars begin making plans with your Pink Ladies (because you know you always wanted to be one). This production is sure to be an event you do not want to miss!
