Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump faced off at the third and final presidential debate last Wednesday. The 2016 United States Presidential Campaign is slowly reaching its conclusion, folks. Chris Wallace, a Fox News anchor, had the pleasure of asking both candidates as many key questions as possible during the final debate. Here are some of the main topics the candidates were asked about:
- The Supreme Court and the Second Amendment
- Abortion
- Immigration
- Wikileaks
- The Economy
- Fitness to be President
- Isis, Syria, and Iraq
- National Debt, Social Security, and Medicare
- Final Statements
On the topic of the Supreme Court and the Second Amendment, it was clear that both candidates disagreed strongly with their opponent. When Wallace asked them about how the Constitution should be interpreted, Trump gave an interesting answer: he “will interpret the Constitution the way the Founders wanted it interpreted.” But since when do Trump’s opinions match up with the Founding Father’s opinions? On the other hand, Senator Clinton said that the Supreme Court should stand on the side of the American people instead of the wealthy corporations. Â
When both of the candidates were asked about their opinion on abortion, they were specific about the Supreme Court case Roe vs. Wade as well as the issue of late-term abortion. This was definitely a heated topic during the debate, since Trump supports overturning the case that gives women their right to abortion, while Clinton strongly supports it. Trump made it abundantly clear that he is completely ignorant to the hardships women go through during the process of carrying and giving birth to children when he said that Hillary thinks “you can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb on the ninth month on the final day.” There are a number of unfortunate reasons that lead to abortions that Trump fails to acknowledge.
Another topic they have very different opinions about is immigration and United States borders. We all know Trump wants to “build that wall” him and his supporters are always talking about. Clinton, however, sees that there are people out there that are suffering, especially women and children. She makes it clear that while she would not let anyone into this country, she will “not slam the door on women and children.”
When it comes to the economy and how each candidate would help the economy grow, neither one of them seem to have the perfect plan. However, Wallace asks Trump how his plan will be effective even though “conservative economists who have looked at your plan say the numbers don’t add up”. After beating around the bush, talking about how horrible our country is, and accusing Clinton of being a liar, he wasn’t really able to answer the question that was posed. Senator Clinton simply stated that helping the middle class thrive is what will help stimulate the economy.
During topic of fitness to be president, Trump claimed that everything he had been accused of, including his sexual harassment stories, had been a complete lie. He even blamed Secretary Clinton’s campaign for making those stories up and claimed to have never even seen any of the women. Clinton simply brought up a number of times Trump has belittled not only women, but people in general, to make himself feel better.
This final debate between the two candidates was definitely more informative about their plans when it came to key topics in comparison to the first two debates. But in all honesty, it was still a joke. I think it is safe to say that the winner of this last little comedy segment was certainly Hillary Clinton.
