Five of the best classic Christmas movies to put you directly into the holiday spirit while you’re on break.

Of course, after finals, the only thing on everyone’s mind is the holidays. The music, the lights, the presents, the great food. But honestly, my favorite part is the movies. Aside from the cheesy romance movies where two people fall happily in love, there are so many classics great for putting you right in the Christmas spirit.

  1. Home Alone. Arguably one of the best Christmas movies of all time. The surreal maturity in an eight-year-old paired with the chaotic and goofy nature of the grown men trying to rob the house is incredibly entertaining. Creativity is obvious in every boobytrap Kevin sets out and the family growing worried about him despite their disagreements and fights shows the importance of family, especially around the holidays.
  1. Elf. A classic, of course. I watched this movie at least five times a season, growing up. Although there is a love story aspect to the movie, it doesn’t override the story of Buddy finding his dad. The humor and plot together make it a great watch to hit you right into your feels and the classic “save-the-day” ending wraps the whole movie up nicely, showing the characters’ growth.
  1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas. No matter what version you watch, the story of the grinch is unmatched. Watching the grinch enjoy Christmas after so many years hating it can not only be used as entertainment, but can show that regaining love for the season is possible. So many people do not enjoy the Christmas season, and that is okay. This movie shows that feelings can change and people can grow. The grinch being a great entertaining movie with humor gives it both fun and meaning.
  1. A Christmas Story. One of the best classic movies of all time. From the leg lamp to the “You’ll shoot your eye out kid,” this story follows a young boy and getting the gift of a lifetime from a child’s perspective. The film shows determination from the child all the way up to a parent doing something great. This will get you into the Christmas spirit if you weren’t already, before.
  1. The Santa Clause. The typical family where the dad works too hard and the new stepfather is set up for disaster. The growing relationship between father and son is inspiring and although the concept of the movie is a little silly, the theme is wholesome and surely entertaining. The unrealistic but very fun idea of turning into Santa has a hopeful and good natured vibe all throughout the end, making you feel all warm and sweet.

Christmas is a great time of year for enjoying and reminiscing on all the amazing things that come along with it. There are so many Christmas movies out there but only some can give you that warm feeling at the end. Movies can give people a sense of relaxation and comfort and combining that with the holidays can be the best feeling there ever was.
