Best and Worst Dressed At the 2023 Grammys

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

The Grammy Awards is one of my favorite award shows to watch for two reasons: music and fashion. Earlier this month, the 65th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles, so let’s take a look at a few of the best and worst dressed musical artists.

This will definitely be controversial, but I was not a fan of Harry Styles’ red carpet outfit. The rainbow, sparkly jumpsuit by EgonLab reminded me of a circus or clown outfit. However, I will say he redeemed himself with the last outfit he wore when he accepted his Album of the Year award. The Gucci cropped ivory blazer paired with a sequined tank top, loose trousers, and black Adidas was much more fashionable.

I’m usually always impressed by Olivia Rodrigo’s outfits, but this year’s wasn’t that great. I think she looked stunning in the sheer black slip dress by Miu Miu, however, the black bralette and spandex underneath did not do her justice. I also had mixed feelings about the Tiffany & Co. Black Bean Necklace.

An outfit that really stood out to me was Benny Blanco’s. I know people believe that the Grammys’ attire must be super formal, but I think Blanco’s embroidered denim short suit with lacy socks and Mary Janes was great. It captured his personality and was authentically himself.

Lizzo never fails to amaze me, and she slayed the red carpet wearing her fiery orange Dolce & Gabbana gown. I loved how her eye makeup was soft orange to complement the gown and flowers tucked behind her ears really put it over the top.

Doja Cat really embodied her song “Boss Bitch” with her full latex one-shouldered dress by Versace. The cinched waist and flared out circular shirt paired with matching opera gloves looked absolutely stunning on her. Her black buzzcut, thick hoops, and sharp black eyeliner with a frosted lip elevated the look.

Shania Twain or 101 Dalmatians mixed with Ronald McDonald? I love to jam out to “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!”, but her black-and-white spotted, sequined-covered suit by Harris Reed was one of my least favorite looks of the entire night. The hat reminded me of The Cat in the Hat and the fiery red hair with matching lipstick just made the look a little tacky.

One couple’s outfits I did not like were Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox. I know Kelly’s whole brand is being “edgy”, but his Dolce & Gabbana metallic suit reminded me of the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz. Fox’s outfit also could’ve been much better. Her white bedazzled dress looked like something a high school senior would wear to prom.

By far my favorite look of the night was worn by Coco Jones. Her gold and sparkly Zuhair Murad dress had her glowing. The color really complemented her skin, and the subtle gold eyeshadow was a nice touch. The shape of the dress was flattering, and the slit allowed her to show off her gorgeous gold Stuart Weitzman shoes. Jones made the outfit even more elegant with the hanging earring and slicked back hair.

There are plenty of other looks that I hated and loved, but these nine stood out to me the most. I think overall, what makes a good award show outfit is being unique and showcasing your personality through your clothing. Some of these artists will continue to show out, but others need to step it up and redeem themselves.
