Brands like I.AM.GIA and Body by Raven have become crowd-pleasing as their two-piece sets pop up all over everyone’s For You pages. The sets are cute, fit well, and easy to style, but it can be hard to tell if you love them because they’re convenient or if you want to be a part of the trend.
TikTok creators post hauls, reviews, and sponsored videos of themselves wearing these brands to make them look appealing to their audience. Seeing your favorite creator in an outfit you think looks good on them will likely make you more intrigued to buy it (I know from experience).
This is one of the biggest reasons why fashion trends can be so hard to stay away from. The temptation to buy when you see everyone with the items you’re interested in can be hard to ignore. It leads you to think it’s something you just have to have. The fear of missing out is a common theme, so it’s easy to get wrapped up in these trends.
Sets are easy, fun, and cute, especially on days when you just want to throw on something quick and presentable. There‘s so much online pressure to be part of a trend, but we often forget that trends come and go. When the hype dies down, you have to wonder if what you bought can be something you love to wear long-term, even if it’s not as popular anymore. You can be cute and spend the same amount on something that lives up to the price and that you’ll wear without needing validation from a viral trend.
Being someone who has ordered from these brands, I would say it’s worth the buy if you’re looking for something pretty, quick, and easy to throw on. But if you care about the quality you’re getting for the money you’re spending, I’d say find an alternative. I ordered my sets with the goal of having something comfortable and cute I can wear almost anywhere, and I was expecting the quality to match the price I paid. As someone who chooses comfort over everything, I’ll say the pieces are comfortable, but it still doesn’t justify the expenditure. I think trying it out was an experience, but I wouldn’t purchase it again.
There’s so much pressure to be part of a trend, but there’s always alternatives. Don’t feel ashamed about not participating in every fashion trend you see. There’s more fun in finding pieces that will satisfy your needs and justify the price you’re paying. Fashion is freedom, so allow your freedom to find ways to express yourself without letting others or social media decide what you should put on today.
But hey! Everyone has free will. That’s the beauty of fashion. There’s nothing wrong with doing what you want and styling yourself how you want to. It’s also okay to question whether or not you actually like what you’re getting or if you’re just buying it because you everyone is.
