9 Affordable Makeup Brands

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

As college women, of course our budgets are tight and sometimes makeup can be a little expensive. Here are some suggestions of some makeup brands to help you look flawless without breaking the bank!

Colourpop

Colourpop is known for their line of liquid lipsticks, but has so much more to offer. Their Supershock eyeshadows, highlighters, blushes and bronzers have a bouncy texture and are incredibly pigmented. They also have brow products, lip glosses, and a new line of pressed powder eyeshadows. Their ever popular ultra matte lips come in tons of colors, many of which are dupes for Kylie’s lip kits. The products on the site run from about $5-10; the perfect justification to buy a purple lipstick!

NYX Cosmetics

NYX Cosmetics has been around for a while and has quality products for just the right price. Two of their most popular products happen to be liquid lipsticks. Their Lip Lingerie matte liquid lipsticks come in a range of shades, with nude colors for every skintone. The Liquid Suede lipstick also has a wide shade range, with lip liners to match each color. Both formulas are extremely comfortable to wear and are not drying. NYX has also recently come out with their total control drop foundation which can be applied for light, medium, or heavy coverage and comes in 24 shades. NYX’s products are consistently amazing, so trying anything from them would be a safe bet. NYX Cosmetics can be found many places, but their full line is available at Ulta, Target, some CVS stores, and at NYX retail stores.

Makeup Revolution

Makeup Revolution makes all types of makeup products ranging from primers to eyeshadow palettes, to lipsticks. They are known for their dupes of many high-end brands like Too Faced and Urban Decay. All of their products cost less than $20 (!!!) and can be found at Ulta.

Maybelline

Maybelline is an extremely well known drugstore beauty brand, and for obvious reasons. Their products are super accessible, affordable, and quality. They try to keep up with all of the new trends in the makeup world, which is reflected by the products they’ve come out with for contouring, color correcting, and highlighting. All of their products are great but the most popular items are their mascaras, FitMe foundations, and lipsticks.

L’Oréal Paris

L’Oréal Paris also has tons of amazing products, and they make more than just makeup! Their hair and skin products are also comparable to salon and luxury brands. L’Oréal’s products are on the more expensive side for drugstore products, but are totally worth it. You won’t regret trying them out!

LA Girl

LA Girl’s products used to only be well known in the online beauty community, but has recently grown and become more popular. Their most raved about product is their HD pro concealer which comes in 20 shades, to fit all skin tones plus color correcting shades! The brand was recently picked up by Ulta and has many other products that are very promising.

Wet N’ Wild

Wet N’ Wild is another staple drugstore brand that has great products for an even greater price. Their lipsticks, eyeshadows and eyeliners are great quality and super affordable. Wet N’ Wild has clearly been keeping up with trends, since they recently released a line of liquid matte lipsticks and gorgeous makeup brushes!

Real Techniques

Technically, Real Techniques isn’t a makeup brand, but they do make fantastic makeup tools! Their brushes are super soft and don’t shed, and they can be purchased individually or in sets. Their miracle sponges are also amazing and are a well known dupe for beauty blenders! This brand is sold at Ulta and can occasionally be found on sale!

E.L.F. Cosmetics

Elf has been a favorite of makeup enthusiasts forever because of its range of awesome products at an inexpensive price. Their products are fantastic and are mostly under $10. A personal favorite product is their clear brow and lash gel. Elf has also recently branched out from making only makeup products to a highly rated line of skincare. Their products can be found on their online store, Ulta’s website, and Target stores.
